The more horrible, the more exciting

For about 20 minutes, Rep. Gabrielle Giffords' husband broke down in a plane's bathroom after believing incorrect media reports that his wife had been fatally shot at a political event outside a supermarket.

The astronaut said he learned that she was alive when he called Giffords' mother, who was outside the operating room at the hospital where the congresswoman was being treated. He has said that he called an ABC affiliate in Houston to correct reports of his wife's death.

Too often the media's desire to catch attention overwhelms the truth of a sitiation and innocent people suffer.

Have you ever noticed when something happens you have all the news place (TV, radio etc) who will come on and excitedly announce "We really know nothing right now but we want to be the first to tell you we know nothing and we will either stay right here or break in regularly to tell you we know nothing!!"

Later they go on to report each and every rumor they pick up.

That's when something like this happens I don't take anything they report as being even close until at least 2 hours.

NPR already had a black eye over the Juan Williams incident and CNN was at the bottom of the ratings list. I can't think of a worse gaffe either could have committed to hurt their credibility.

I've been following this story and her progress. It wasn't long ago that I found myself in that man's shoes, maybe facing life alone. It's bloody scary and my heart goes out to that family.

I'm very happy that she is pulling through and they're in my thoughts.

I didn't realize that. Shame on them, too.

I do feel very sorry for her poor husband! That must have been horrible for him to hear as he was trying to get home to be with her.

I never forget a kindness. And your prayers were a great kindness indeed. Thank you.

"If it bleeds, it leads."

Sadly, the Enquirer, Jon Stewart, and Stephen Colbert tend to get the facts straight more often than other broadcast or print media.

The news media are like vultures, just waiting for the road kill...Even after the news is dead, they still beat it over and over. YUK!
