If History Repeats Itself and Cicero said this

"The budget should be balanced, the treasury should be refilled, public debt should be reduced, the arrogance of officialdom should be tempered and controlled, and the assistance to foreign lands should be curtailed lest Rome become bankrupt. People must again learn to work, instead of living on public assistance."

-- Cicero, 55 BC

in 55 BC, AND Rome didn't fall until 235 AD (this date is hotly argued), how long do you think it'll be before the US falls?

Cicero was a man of wisdom with a few rather significant flaws....none of those flaws had any ill effect on his ability to see his country through very clear eyes.

Of course...he was killed for such astute orations since it went against the continued plots of those who needed a pliable and helpless populace.

Ciceros of today will have an even smaller audience and face twice the danger.

It's a world community today. The US doesn't have to fall. National borders are beginning to lose relevance to our lives already.

With all the advances in science, technology, medicine, etc. that we have today, it is easy to forget sometimes how wise some of the people who came before us really were. Thanks for the great post. Those words ring eerily true, don't they?

That depends on what you call the fall. For many it is the date from the time when they went from a self governing republic to a subject people under an emporer

....and that year was 44 B.C. the year that Gaius Julius Caesar was rightfully executed in the hall of Roman legislature when he went to accept the title of Dictator for Life. He demanded and received this title by holding the citizens of Rome hostage with battle hardened troops. Dictator for Life meant he never had to have the senate or plebs pass any law, it was done by his decree alone.

One year later, during the triumvirate that resulted in the ascension of Gaius Octavianus Caesar as Octavius the First Emperor, Cicero was murdered because he spoke for a return to republican rule.

We should all take a lesson from that!

No, we will be taken over from within, by foreigners who have no love or respect for this country.

We have an open and inviting border for them to come in - all the while we are fighting a war against 'terrorists' on the other side of the world, while the 'terrorists' are being invited in, fed, clothed, educated and medicated.

The terrorists are in Washington in Congress. Both sides of the aisle are guilty.

Ron Paul and Cicero have much in common. Hope Ron Paul doesn't end up like Cicero!

Actually, the Roman REPUBLIC barely survived Cicero, and was replaced by the Roman EMPIRE.

Old Cicero had no way of knowing, but way,way in the future was gunna come "The One",a community organizer who usurped his way into the White House, with big plans to break this country.Once he and his administration got their ducks in a row, wouldn't you know it,up popped the biggest oil spill in history.Either planned, coincidence,or as luck would have it,they used it as a tool to stop drilling, putting thousands of workers out of a job.

No longer drilling, caused fuel prices to sky rocket, which in turn made it to costly for new jobs to be created, along with food prices on a steady rise, made it difficult for those who did still have jobs,to buy food and still meet their monthly bills.

That wasn't enough for "The One",breaking the country would take to long.So he came up with the idea of using a health care bill to speed the process along.

And to make sure it worked,he made it a law that everyone must buy in,or go to prison. He got to thinking, with so many out of a job, this process want fast enough either. But then as he thought,it come to him:banana02:I know what,I can make those that do have a job,pay for the health-care of those that don't,plus leave the borders wide open, let everyone in Mexico and Canada come searching for a job, which they want find, but while they are hear, they to can have access to free healthcare ,thanks to the Americans workers that still have a job and will gladly foot the bill.

Well, as he is thinking about all his presidenting, and sees his plans are going along satisfactory and everything's right on schedule, and in a short time the America that everyone knows, will soon be no more. His personal mission will be accomplished, and as he stands in front of a mirror admiring himself, with a sheepish grin on his face and winks at himself and thinks,I am "The One" after-all.

There has never been since time began,or never will be in the future, A young black and white kid from Kenya, that will win a Nobel Peace Prize, without earning it,nor will there be one, that can bring down the greatest nation on earth, by his cleverness, and deceitfulness, to somehow get them to believe in him enough, to get their votes, and get enough to become their President, and did it all without a required birth certificate ,or information about his past. "The End"

Republics are temporary. Eventually, they all devolve into something worse than that which inspired their creation.
