Mandatory flu and Tdap vaccinations
The healthcare system I work for has required ALL associates, regardless of work location, receive mandatory seasonal flu and Tdap vaccinations. Failure to comply will result in disciplinary action up to and including (likely) termination of employment.
I work from home, have no direct patient contact, and had to receive these vaccines to keep my job. I did, but not real happy about it. Ahead of me in line was a medflight paramedic, and he wasn't happy about it either, took the shots "under protest."
There are NO exceptions except a doctors excuse because of an extreme allergy/reaction. No religious, personal, etc., exemptions.
What say all of you about this? Would you do it, or face the consequences?

Hard, hard call, Dandish. Pay the bills or take the poison is really no choice at all. What it is is dictatorship and total loss of freedom. Easy for me to say: I would not take the shot. I'm fed up to the top of my head with giving away what my God has given me: life and liberty. In my case I would call on God -- knowing that he provides for his children, even if it is in ways we don't understand -- and refuse the vaccine.

This is sooo wrong. We must get the commies out of our Government.Yes, I would face the consequences. Force is the perfect way to make me stubborn.

What does the government have to do with this? My wife is under the same rules where she works, but the government hasn't got anything to do with it. Terms of employment are just that; if you don't like it, you don't have to work there. Don't worry, though, I'm sure the government will mandate things like this once they fully own healthcare.

It is not the government, it is the insurance companies. They mandate all kinds of crazy, crazy stuff these days, especially in the medical field. I am glad I am out now.

Yes, it's mandated by the employer. The government doesn't have a hand in it (yet).
One reason is that in Washtenaw county pertussis greatly increased, among the highest in the country.

The area was hit pretty hard last year with flu, also.

When I was in the military we didn't have any options. You took whatever vaccines they deemed appropriate. My DH is still in, and still has to comply. My DS and myself do not take flu shots. The hospital I just had surgery in had an x-ray tech that was wearing a face mask. When I asked him why, he told me it was because he wouldn't take the H1N1 shot, so that was his punishment. At least they gave him a choice.

I would feel better in general if i walked into a hospital and all were wearing masks because they wanted to.
Don't feel anyone should take the flu shot if they don't want to, but on the other hand i don't want them breathing in my face if they are sick either.

The hospital I work at requires us to either take the shot or sign a form saying it was offered and we refused. No reason needed.

Private employer and their rules? I guess it's do it or quit, really tests one's convictions.

Likely you got this in a notice of some type. Not only is this a notice but it is also an offer. Notices of a commercial nature are generally required to be acted upon within 72 hours otherwise they are generally deemed to be accepted.
The ONLY way to honorably cancel any offer is a counteroffer. You might want to include terms such as:

You agree that if this treatment results in any sort of medical complication that the company agrees to compensate me for lost wages, pain and suffering, costs of hospitalization, in addition to $100,000 for mental anguish.
|
See how far they are willing to push their requirement when forced to pay for the result.

I will not take the flu vaccine...I have tried three times now and all times became ill with flu-like whatever regardless of the "reports" that say it will not cause it. However my district does not mandate it yet.
My husband's employer does not "mandate it" per se, but if you do not get it and become ill with flu you do not get paid sick leave, you must instead take un paid leave....and it is spelled out in writing that the flu shot was offered and paid for by employer and even offered on site free of charge, and if you refuse and become ill, with flu, anytime during the flu season you take unpaid leave and can face disciplinary action. There have been several incidents of this happening.

TC I should pass on that policy to my poor occ med director who's begging folks to take their flu shot. I'm sure the union would protect us from that though, aside from requiring test prrof that it is one of the H flus in the shot. They do a raffle for those each week who get it- wish I'd waited a bit til there were less in that raffle!
Got my DTAP September when I had a patient who'd been coughing for two weeks- went straight to Immis at lunch and begged for it asap!

As I said, I took the shots. I don't have a big issue with them, I think there are several other things I could do to secure/improve my health before I stand on "high moral ground" about taking the shots.
I can't lose my job. I'm in MI, after all, it's terrible here and probably wouldn't find another job any time soon, especially at my pay/benefit rate. I also carry the health insurance for my family. My DH is a 4 year colon cancer survivor and monitoring and follow up are crucial, and God forbid the cancer recurs we would definitely need the insurance.
I was fine the day I got the shots, felt really lousy the whole next day, better Saturday and today my arms are only a little bit sore, which they warned me about.
I just wondered how others felt about it being mandatory, and if you'd quit/lose your job over it. It rubbed me the wrong way, but not enough to lose my job.

If the Government would do it's job-"corporations" wouldn't be allowed to do these kinds of things. Our Gov. Likes this and promotes this-hence they are allowing it. They are setting precedence, the Judges are so liberal, they also will side with the agenda. Our Freedoms should allow each of us control of our own Body and what injections we want.
