I was not able to watch it all the first time is see it.

But if you have a young or new to driving. I would make them watch it.

I think it very necessary for new drivers (and old) to watch this to get a reality check on the extreme dangers of not paying attention to what their doing while driving AND to be aware of their surroundings at all times while just walking on the sidewalk.

Yes it's graphic but it is a reality check for the new drivers on the road.

I can't clck on it, I am afraid it is the one I saw with My Immortal as the background song? That was one of the most disturbing things I have ever seen, and I am a paramedic, so that is saying something. I would agree, seeing that would be an eye-opener for some...or it would convince them never to drive again.

ETA: I clicked to be sure it is the same one, and I have to underscore the above warning; it is very very graphic.

I watched it a couple of weeks ago. Very upsetting and I think about it all the time....but that's not necessarily a bad thing. This, combined with an accident around here where a woman was hit while pushing two little ones in a jogging stroller, has made me a much more alert driver.

I couldn't watch the whole thing. Very disturbing, very reminicent of my husband's death due to a driver who was "in a hurry to get home."

I've watched that one and I have no words for it. It's painful and you need tissues near by. My son is 18 and I'm trying to decide if I want him to see it. He's already very cautious, yet I kind of want him to see it. It should be mandatory for anyone driving recklessly or carelessly or seen with a cell phone to their ear.

Alright... I knew I really shouldn't have watched that... But, I think the only way to get through to people, sometimes, is to shock them...

I never really noticed how many BAD, BAD, BAD drivers there are out there until I had Emmi... Now every time I have to put her in the car I seem to see more idiot drivers.

Yep. We take for granted the speed and weight of cars, and I see these commercials about parents letting their kids drive for the first time and think, Wow, another generation's at it. Doesn't matter how many airbags or how much engineering, tens of thousands will continue to die.

If you want to learn to be a careful driver you should ride a motorcycle for a year.

I know. The mama bear in me wants to follow them to their destination and call the cops along the way.

The problem was NOT speeding, the problem was distracted people or people not able to see (like the guy passing the truck) what was ahead.
Slow drivers cause accidents too, probably more than fast drivers.

I start training kids to drive as soon when they are six or seven. When they ride with me I will ask them what the last sign we passed said, what color lights were, if there is a car behind us, and I ask about things going on a half mile ahead of us. I ask them what other drivers are doing, etc. I believe that it teaches them to be aware of their surroundings which really is key when driving. Start teaching your kids to drive as soon as they are aware enough to observe their surroundings. It will pay off in the future.

Back in the dark ages (1970) it was required to watch a film like this during driver's ed class, BEFORE you were allowed to ever drive a car or even get your learner's permit. I thought that was very wise and probably saved millions of lives over the years.

I don't know what on earth they're teaching in driver's ed classes these days, but I see cars with "student driver" on them doing some of the most stupid things and breaking every basic rule of driving...with the instructor sitting right there with them! It's no wonder there are so many accidents, if they aren't being taught correctly to begin with and then with all of the distractions most drivers are involved with.

Maybe it's because of the film and the training I received or maybe it's because over the years I've had to attend two defensive driving courses for jobs as a courier and a school bus driver, but when I drive...I DRIVE! I do not talk or text on a phone, eat, do my makeup, turn around to talk to people in the back seat and a million other things I see people doing every day. I am also aware of my surroundings at every moment, and I see potential problems (traffic backup, lane closures, etc.) well in advance and react and plan accordingly, as well as watching my rear view mirror for problems coming up behind me. I NEVER want to be responsible for taking another life, and I drive accordingly.

I say films like these should be shown to every potential new driver. I've been flamed for it many times, but I also think every licensed driver should be retested (written and driving) every 10 years until age 65 and then every year after that. I also think every state should require separate testing and a separate license for operating motorcycles, as it's a very different ball game. I also think regular driver's education should include teaching regarding motorcycle safety.

On June 26, 2004 on a bright sunny morning our oldest son (10) left home with his Uncle and Cousin to go buy new skateboards. Less than 3 miles from home,on our little 2 lane highway, a distracted driver who was arguing with his wife about stopping to buy a bottle of wine turned in front of the van my son was in. My 10 year old precious boy was killed instantly. He suffered a closed head injury and died on impact. He WAS wearing a seatbelt and was in a very large vehicle that had air bags, etc...it wasnt enough. Now we have to live every day for the rest of our lives without him!!!He will never graduate or go to prom or college or get married and have kids. I cant hug or kiss him.I am a shell of the person I once was and live only for my other children on most days. His youngest brother and sister never got to meet him. His other brother who was his best friend has to live every day knowing he will never see him again and his other sister who was just a baby when he died will never know him.
This driver also killed one of his own children that day!!!!!A 7 year old who was a twin.
All because he didnt want to stop and buy a bottle of wine and thought arguing about doing so was more important than paying attention.
This video was VERY hard to watch, BUT I think if parents like myself could stand up in front of a high school auditorium full of soon to be drivers and videos like this were allowed to be shown in drivers ed, maybe just maybe one person would be saved.....that one person could have been my son!

Okay. I saw this on Facebook a few days back. Is this video real? Are some of the clips real and others staged? That doesn't negate the importance, but really, is there a camera running in a car with a woman holding her infant outside of a proper carseat? Please tell me some of this isn't real.

Some are, most are recreations -- they happened, just not while a camera was running. The physics are correct, all of the injuries are well within the range of "expected" for each accident.

However, I thought the entire thing was overkill -- there is no way I could watch the entire thing, about two minutes was my max. I think they need to break this down into three or four emotionally manageable segments. JMO.

When I started as a newer CDL driver, at a trucking Company, I spent an entire DAY, watching 1960's State Police crash scene movies, or crash news footage, most of which was 100% real. Both cars and trucks.

Worked for me.

Every young driver (and problem older drivers) should required to see these types of informational videos. If they find them upsetting - too bad.

Real crashes can be pretty upsetting too and can scar many lives forever.
