They are two separate diseases. HPV CAN cause warts, but won't necessarily. HPV is the most common STD and many people with it have no idea. HPV CAN be cured completely but since it is so easily transmitted it frequently recurs. Herpes does not have any warts associated with it--only blister-like bumps during an outbreak. Often there is only one "bad" outbreak and then very little noticeable symptoms of herpes so many people have it and don't know. Some estimates are that 40% of the population has genital herpes. Herpes cannot be cured but does go into remission with outbreaks occuring only once or twice a year at times. And just FYI...cold sores and genital herpes are both Human Simplex viruses, just different strains. You CAN get the cold sore virus on your genitals and the genital herpes virus on your lips, eyes, etc but not as easily as their "preferred" location...the genitals.
