Growth too slow to drive up hiring

The recovery is fading, and a troubling new pattern is setting in: economic growth that is too slow to put Americans back to work.

The good news is that it was the fourth consecutive quarter of economic growth and that the expansion continued despite a crisis overseas and palpitations in global financial markets. The bad news is that the growth was below the long-term trend rate at which the U.S. economy expands and is not strong enough to drive down unemployment. And more worrisome, many of the details of the report point to a continued slowdown of expansion this year.

It always slows down in Winter so there's not much hope left for this year

Don't forget many of these companies let go about 30% of the workforce. Many of them are realizing that they did not need that extra 30% of employees.
I know of many an office worker who spent hours everyday on the internet and emailing friends and not work related. Now the employees must work harder to get the work done but who said you should not work all day.
If those were my employees I would not allow internet access.
I imagine it is the same for some manufacturing companies as well.
Having employees is very expensive.
I think the country was still riding the bubble of the 80's.

What is the incentive to start a business? I considered starting something on the side and building my own business. But after looking at the cost of taxes and mandatory health care, I figured it wasn't worth the hassle. Sad to say, but I am better off financially if I don't start a successful business.

We can only eat a certain number of big macs. Some of us are trying to eat more and help out the economy but we can only do so much.
Not much growth or expansion in any other fields. We have to eat so there will always be those jobs, other jobs we send over the border or overseas.

Perhaps we should have an annual census.
