Well at least they are not watching porn

Almost nine out of 10 women who took part in a survey confessed to using some company time to make wedding plans, but only a third believed that their work was negatively affected by it.

The survey of 1,000 women by TheKnot.com, WeddingChannel.com and ForbesWoman.com also showed that women spend about 10 hours a week planning their wedding and nearly 30 percent of it is done at work.

Twenty percent of women admitted that more than half of their wedding arrangements were done at work.

How do you know what they were watching, or what they were doing while watching?

.... women spend about 10 hours a week planning their wedding and nearly 30 percent of it is done at work....

Okay, lets see. 30% of a total of 10 hours a week. That works out to 3 hours spread out over 5 work days which works out to 36 minutes a day on each of those work days. Now if they're on company time for that 36 minutes a day then that could amount to some loss to the employer. But I'm guessing a large part of that 36 minutes a day is played out during lunch and coffee breaks.

All in all, 36 minutes a day for 5 days a week is not really too bad. I think they need to be given some leeway to plan their weddings since their wedding day is going to be the only really good and exciting day they have for themselves for the rest of their life and what would be the point in disillusioning them? Poor girls .... if only they knew the life that lies in store for them, they'd never plan a wedding at all.

Retired outside sales rep here...never in my working life did I surf on the job.

Oh, did work in a clinic & hosp. b/4 sales & did not do anything that wasn't work related.

Be willing to venture that those in the HC field have no time at all for lunch let alone planning weddings.

Never even checked your email on company time?

Wow, we're in the presence of a saint.

In the presence of a saint?

How about someone who has integrity & knows the difference between work and personal time? Many people can compartmentalize and work when they are suppose to.

I'll add also working in health care - I agree, there's not any time to do personal stuff.

I don't think everyone needs to be painted with the same brush.

Nope, never have. But then again, I am out on the shop floor fixing stuff

If they are being paid to work, then they should be working.
If they are on lunch or break, and are using their own computer, I don't have a problem with it.

Workers that can access the Internet, will and very often, provided they don't get caught.

I did - a lot.

Companies are out of their minds, if they don't have something in place to control employee access, to the Internet.

An employee leaving up a porn pic, is an instant way to a sexual harassment lawsuit.

What about having non work related conversations with a co-worker on company time? Everyone does that.

Why is it ok to hang around the water cooler and chat up your co-workers for 10 or 15 minutes at a time but not ok to go on the net (or do some wedding planning) instead?

A little down time now and then can be beneficial. It clears the mind. The problem only comes up when people take it too far and abuse it.

I once had to chastise a male employee for looking at porn on his company computer.

It was a really awkward moment for both of us. LOL!

Other than porn, I never minded if they 'surfed,' as long as they got their work done.

ME? No email back then, when I was working in the hosp & clinic. Or at least no way to access. Prob would have done that if it were available. Voice mail was the deal, when I was a sales rep, & HAD to check it every hr, for customers.
