D.C. elementary schools lose ground on test scores

A dip of between four to five points in elementary scores halts an upward two-year trend. From 2007 to 2009, elementary pass rates had risen about 19 points in math and 11 points in reading.
The decline comes at an inopportune moment for Mayor Adrian M. Fenty, who is in a hotly contested Democratic primary battle with D.C. Council Chairman Vincent C. Gray. Fenty hopes to demonstrate to voters that the city's school system, among the nation's weakest, is undergoing a historic turnaround.

Why are the DC's children among the nation's academically weakest? Don't they get as much or more funding as other major cities?

Could it be the close proximity to politicians?

I wonder if the children in Brussels, Ottawa, Beijing, Copehagen, Prague, New Delhi, Tel Aviv, Tokyo, London, Paris, Madrid, Moscow, Oslo, Berlin, Seoul, Stockholm, Bern, or Canberra are among their countries weakest academically?

It was the brain drain when so many republicans left after the last election and pulled their kids out of school.

LOL, you may well be right. When the dems moved in, they brought their dumb kids with them.

If you had ever been downtown in DC you wouldn't have to ask why the kids do so poorly in school, what a ----hole that place is.
