Homeland Security seizes control of BP oil spill website

What does the oil spill have to do with Homeland Security? Big Sis seems to have a lust for power and control.

Homeland Security seizes control over BP oil spill website
DHS

The Department of Homeland Security has seized control over a joint BP oil spill website, previously managed by several US Government agencies and BP and intended to inform the public about the progress made in the cleanup effort.

The joint website was managed by US agencies, including the US Coast Guard, and BP to provide daily information about the oil spill and efforts made by both in conjunction with independent contractors to proceed with the cleanup effort.

Effective immediately, the Department of Homeland Security will now control all content and distribution of information to the American and international public.

Secretary Janet Napolitano, head of the DHS, was not available for comment and her office did not immediately return phone calls.

The announcement, first reported by the Associated Press, was frowned upon by many news agencies and reporters. According to a DHS spokesman, the website will change its address from a dot-com to a dot-gov address but the content will remain the same.

Who can actually post to the new website remains unknown but it is believed that the content is under the sole control of the DHS and no articles will be posted or published without the approval of Secretary Napolitano or one of her directors.

While it does not make sense to invent a conspiracy theory at this juncture, it is questionable why the DHS would get involved in an environmental disaster that has no immediate impact on national security and therefore would not be considered to be placed under their control and jurisdiction.

The next few days may shed more light on this puzzling decision, but one can state as a fact that such seizure can only be executed upon direct instructions from the White House.

They are centralizing all news sources under their authority. First the 65' rule, now this. I suspect the 65' rule will soon be violated somehow and expanded to the 65 mile rule.

They are moving to control all information about this event. For what purpose I cannot yet gather, but it is important that we watch and learn how they move.

Folks, if you live in the region and can take photos of what's happening yourself, PLEASE submit them everywhere you can. I'd like to see them here or perhaps on a blog you set up for that purpose.

I've said for a long time that this is a coup d'etat in slow motion and the strangulation of information is one of the hallmarks of a coup.

It just begs to ask.. What is so bad that they don't want the information/knowledge freely known?

While there will be those who are going to be questioning

what this has to do with national security......it completely removes ALL DOUBT as to
'preparing' the masses for the eventual take-over of the net (and anything else that may
challenge by what "right" that they can do this. This administration's goon squad(s) is
starting to make sure that everything is falling into place......and they will slowly lull the
masses into compliance with small steps aimed at the erosion of their very freedoms......
When they finally wake up to this fact, it will be too late.

Time to get that roll of tin foil out of storage
and form it to my head before they find me.

Obamaco is on the move.
They want this oil spill to be such a big disaster their cap and tax will slide through.
They depend on the stupidity of the gullible public, and Obama still thinks we believe anything he says.
Keep a sharp eye out, they are up to something.

I'm trying to remember just who consolidated all the power under Homeland Security, sweeping FEMA, the Coast Guard and other agencies under one umbrella agency that was supposed to protect us.

It hasn't changed yet. Maybe later.

Once again you are absolving your Obama of any wrong doing.
Unbelievable.

The whole time that President Bush was consolidating power and strengthening the presidency, it should have been obvious that any future president would use that power.

That's the way it works.

For example, the Democrats used the filibuster with impunity when they were in the minority. It's come back to bite them.

The whole time that President Bush made unilateral decisions as "The Decider," not much of a peep was made by many folks on this forum. In fact, some were called "traitors" for opposing his power grab and foreign exploits.

Those chickens have come home to roost, now. But, this time, there's a different rooster.

Just because someone leaves a box of tools laying around after they have left does not mean the new guy has to use those tools.

The difference is the media. Used to be we would not have to dig and check sources about what the gov't was doing because it would be all over every newscast. Now all I hear is crickets chirping.

If the Left all thought it was such a bad thing, why didn't BO repeal it all?
(Instead of repealing tax CUTS?)

The point is that the idea of the GOP as the party of smaller government is mostly a myth.

Federal agencies became larger and less transparent during Bush's administration and likely will during Obama's.

Most folks on this forum are far more concerned with whose team is in control than they are that, beyond some window dressing, both parties are pretty much the same.

So many folks are coming up with off-the-wall accusations and conspiracy theories that the big picture is lost.

And the big picture when it comes to the gulf is that BP and other companies are pretty much calling their own shots and doing their best to control whatever information comes out of the area.

Will the govenment taking over control help make the situation any more transparent? I doubt it. But, I'm not sure how it can be any worse. BP would like to treat it as a public relations exercise.

I think we can safely put off worrying about how the GOP is going to screw us until November.

They already have.

Why do you think that Homeland Security has the ability to take over the oil spill clean-up?

This is new. The controlling of content and distribution of information concerning a national disaster. Makes one wonder WHY?

O and his handlers see the writing on the wall. Look for more of this to come between now and the election and even more between the election and January '11 when the dems lose even more of their majority.
