Question Louisiana demands federal action on dredge plan

I am not understanding why the fedgov is blocking this, maybe someone with more knowledge can chime in..

Venice, Louisiana (CNN) -- Frustrated Louisiana officials Sunday demanded the federal government approve their plans to dredge up walls of sand to protect delicate inland estuaries from the Gulf of Mexico oil spill.

"Either the Coast Guard has to side with its American citizens and protect its communities, or it has to side with a major world corporation named BP and betray American citizens in that process," St. Bernard Parish President Craig Taffaro told reporters.

I just scanned the CNN article, but I think this TIME article details more clearly some of the concerns with the dredging operation.

I don't see why the governor just doesn't make a couple of phone calls and get the dredging going. Do you really think the O would send in armed federal troops to stop it?

No, but this is about money. Louisiana wants a commitment that either BP or the federal government is paying for the dredging.

And this administration wouldn't send in armed federal troops, they would send in lawyers and sue Louisiana.

So? You think a piece of paper is enough to stop a group of people from doing anything? That paper HAS to be backed up by armed men, either police or military.
