Thanks Elkhound! I thoroughly enjoyed this video (on my new phone, yay!). It's the third one I've had the pleasure of seeing. Wyldthang (I think?) posted one a while back, and someone posted another one in the Survival forum here.

Agafia and me are kindred spirits in more than a few ways...f'sure.

An amazing story. I liked it immensely, with some exception for the fellow who moved in close by and that she now cares for. But it is a truely unique place.

Here's a nice article from The Smithsonian about Agafia's family. It provides a detailed account of survival and describes why and how they escaped civilization. Hattip to Haven (HT General Chat)...

I wish I could find links to those other two videos. They were quite profound...to put it mildly.

Aha!!!

There's one! That one came from the last link in the Smithsonian article.

This. No way would I have tolerated a freeloader like that. Made me sick to see it.

I watched that last night. I have thought about it all thru the day today. I am somewhat outraged that they flew off and left her there with that lecherous moocher. This woman was raised in a strong patriarchal family. She may be able to split her own wood and cope with bears but I doubt she was prepared to deal with this guy just moving up there and truely did not understand that she can tell him to fetch his own water and wood....... along with other things he could do to himself....
