Raven I haven't been making any goodies--no time.

You probably don't want to know. But if you see a cute little lamb coming near you and Fowler not far behind, then break out a gas mask or you'll wind up in the cellar.

Wait, does it mean thusly is the method of their dispatchment? (or does that just knock em' out?)

@ Fowler - I'd actually be interested in how all that works... what do you do with the chloroform Fowler? Is that like when they're put in a box?

Don't worry, its one of the little running jokes here, its not a serious thing.

Warwalk,
Did you see the movie Misery? The running joke (hopefully ) is that fowler uses chloroform instead of ankle hobbling with a hammer to keep a man around her house

Ha! That's wild, lol! I was actually picturing sneaking up behind the sheepies with the handkerchief and then "sleepy time". I thought to myself, "heck, I guess it beats a .22", ya know?

That's still something I'll have to get over in my head at some point, as I look forward to having pigs, ducks, chickens, and possibly sheep. But there's no way around the dispatchment if I'm going to get some of em' into the freezer.

Yeah, I have that same problem. I figure I'm going to be running the Upstate New York Nursing Home for Uneaten Farm Animals at some point.

If it's concern for you Warwalk and ShyGal, you can always do as the man who owned the barn. We had ducks, turkeys, chickens, beef calves, and yes, emus all destined for Freezer Camp. Seymour wouldn't allow anyone who lived there or visited to take care of that--religious reason and something about women shouldn't have blood on their hands. Anyway when it was time, he packed them into the truck and took them to someone who handled that. Except the calves. The knacker came to us for that.

I've kind of wondered (I know, I'm overthinking things, but just thinking out loud), has anyone ever experimented with doing something like a local neck anesthetic? Or a catheter thingy with plastic tubing going into a sealed bucket? No pain, no smell of blood or sight of blood: just shave off a little skin, plug a needle into the jugular, and put a piece of surgical tape over the spot til ol' bessie says "I'm feelin' diiiiizzzzzyyyy...".

Like I said, I'm probably overthinking it, but I've just wondered if anyone's ever tried or heard of any out of the ordinary dispatchment methods.

I would be worried about ol' bessie holding still long enough to bleed out.
As far as anesthetic do you really want that in your meat?
