I can just shake my head when I see things like this...
...finding even a niche market in our society.

Why dont folks just turn the darn things off?
Sad part is now the term "Nomophobia" has been coined
Nomophobia - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Glad the off button is the first to wear out on mine and I forget and leave it at home on my desk in the study three to five times a month.
Even during my last two vehicle break downs I found I had forgotten mine and couldn't call my mechanic. Both times I just turned on my hazard flashers and drank a cup of coffee one time and a Dr Pepper the other while reading one of the magazines I keep in my rig to read if I am parked waiting and have no newspaper with me until a patrol car checked me out and dispatched my mechanic as a owners request tow.
I may of had to wait 20 or 30 minutes those times to get my mechanic headed my way but at least I know I don't have a phobia about it

yeh, makes me wonder what they did before cell phones, onestar, etc etc?
the only reason I began carrying cell phone was when dh was ill with cancer. That way, he could call me, or the kids could call me if necessary. I didn't even know my own cell phone nr!!
I dont always bring it now; usually because I am forgetful.

I have a cell phone because it is cheaper than my landline phone was. And because, for 8 months of the year, I'm outside a whole lot more than I'm inside. Of course, I don't go out to the coffee shop or anywhere, really, so it's the only way for anyone to communicate directly with me to see if it's OK to come around, other than take a chance on just showing up when I'm occupied. Not sure I'd have any kind of hissy fit if I couldn't find the phone though. I just want to be able to answer it when my daughters call.

The cell lock up would probably make a good gag gift for quite a few people.
I know one thing for sure, and that is that I'll never be a nomophobic! My cheap phone is in the car for emergencies. Folks look at me like I have 2 heads when they ask for my cell number and I tell them that it wouldn't do any good for them to have it as I never turn it on. If it weren't for the kids, I don't know if I'd have any kind of phone.

Of course when I saw your link to nomophobia, I thought it was going to be about garden elves.
There's a cell in the purse. Probably needs to be charged. I never use it. I do admit though, it came in handy after Sandy hit.

The only phone I have is a cell phone and it doesn't get turned off because it is also used for my business. This way when I have kids in my car the parents have access to me at all time and I them. Also since I want to go off grid I use mine for my alarm clock in the morning as well as my clock in the middle of the night etc. I also have access to my own kids at all times during the day which has proved itself in a emergency. Land lines phones are becoming a thing of the past.

I have a smart phone. I had a Track phone when I 1st moved into my cabin, and it just made sense to upgrade. I use my IPhone all day long, but use less than 30 minutes a month on calls, and even less on texting. I'm just not one to talk on the phone.

I have a love/hate relationship with cell phones. I keep one around for a couple reasons, one, I'm somewhat on call regarding work, if people can't contact me, I can't work at times, or deal with things that come up related to work. I also live a long ways from town, and end up using my cell to make contact with friends when going to town. Having it in case of a breakdown or a wreck is also worthwhile to me, as the distances are far, and people often few. Sometimes you have to get to high ground to get a call through tho. Most of the drive to town I cant get service, but I can amke a 911 call.
I keep a land line at home, partly because its my internet connection, but mostly because cells arent all that reliable here. I have to stabd with the antena by the window in the front door to talk, or outside on the porch. If I move or wtep off the porch, I cant hear anything.
I often end up leaving the phone in the truck, and get messages after the fact, tho thats faster than waiting til I get home. I absolutley hate talking on the cell in a business or store, unless just for a minute to coordinate meeting someone, telling the I'll call them back in a minute, or something of that sort. I also hate being around someone in public thats taking on their phone for personal calls. Holy cow! Get a life! Many laugh at me when my phone rings, I look at it, and put it back in my pocket. If it isn't important to talk right at that minute, I'll call back when its convenient for ME.
For those that keep a phone just for road emergencies, you dont have to pay for a phone for that. Any phone will make a 911 call, you dont have to have service. If it doesnt work, take it to any cell company and they will make it work. It's best to call the local law enforcement agancy (the non emergency number) and see if you can make a 911 test call for a phone check, if they arent busy they should be OK with that. Once you know it works, you can just keep it and a car charger in your vehicle and not pay for cell service.
Texting drives me up the wall. I hate doing it, and hate being around people that are glued to their phones texting, especially when they are so-called socializing with others. I understand it has a place in convenience, but usually its faster and easier to talk then text. If I just need to make a simple contact or relay something that doesnt require a response, I may text, (like knowings omeone is busy or at work, and texting "call me when you get a chance") otherwise I avoid it.

I guess id qualify. I keep one on constantly, and on me. I suppose I want to hear IF anybody calls me. I imagine thats a bit of loneliness, OR just wanting something different added to my day.
I notice that when I am driving, I dont know whether its boredom, or that my brain is waked up/excited by new sites/situations, but I always nearly think of somebody I should call. Sometimes I do, If I realize I think its important. Sometimes I wait, if I think it isnt. I have a land line with a recorder, BUT for some reason, I want to hear the call when its made, so sign me up.

I think that would be wonderful if I had teenagers who abused the privilage of having a cell phone. Think I'd screw the thing to a table though, they'd probably find a way to text through the bars. And I used to think taking TV away was a good punishment.
Nothing is more upsetting to me than to be eating a meal or trying to carry on a conversation with someone and have them texting, kids think nothing of it.
I carry a cell phone pretty much all the time. It's with me because I spend a lot of time outside, sometimes working with machinery, and would lay on the ground wounded for days I'm sure. Since having both knees replaced it is nearly impossible for me to get up off the ground, can't put weight on the knees, and if I were injured . . .

The only reason I have a cell is to have a phone. I have another one provided to me by work.
I never really needed a cell before. I bought a cheap one in 2010 just because I was going on a long trip and there are no pay phones anymore it seems like. Then I lost it about a month after my trip. I found it this spring hee hee. It's too old now apparently so I got this new one. It's nice.
But I'm not a cell phone player. I don't play games on it and fiddle with it to fiddle. It's my stay in touch and communication to friends and family. I can go online with it and do occasionally look things up when I need to or read the forums but I don't like doing long internet sessions with it, as it is not relaxing at all...being hunched over this tiny screen and then trying to type....I don't have the patience for that.
I'm also not a big texter. It's just for short informational messages.. "got home safe", "see you tomorrow at 10" etc....things that don't require a conversation. I won't do long conversations in text often...it's much more efficient to speak and very frustrating to type even though I have one of the ones with the bigger screens and bigger onscreen buttons.

@ Mal, I didn't know that re: emerg. phones. Thanks!
Youngest son is always on his; texting. Drives me and his brother nuts when he just kind of zones out in the middle of a conversation. Especially when you're waiting on him to answer a question.

Funny, I dont mind receiving them, just writing them, or when they expect an answer.

My cellphone when I remember to carry it is only used as a pager and payphone while driving and I check my page or message and return the call after I have pulled out of traffic and I then turn it off or toss it in the glove box before I go into whatever building I am going to so that it doesn't disturb me or others in whatever building I am in.
At home I use my land line and cordless phone if I am outside if I choose to be phone accessible.

A lot of people are getting rid of their land lines. I keep my land line because it has never failed in any storm even when the power was out for over a week at a time and there was no cell phone reception.
