How can I make an indoor table set an outdoor set?

A guy at work was talking about needing to get rid of a glass top table and chairs, and I assumed for some reason that he was talking about a patio set. He showed me pics on his phone, and it looked nice, so I offered to buy it, and he said they'd be grateful to just have somebody come and haul it all away. Cool.

I figure out a little later that it's an indoor set, but thought maybe I could make it work outside. Ends up it's bigger then what the pics made it look like, and also a really nice set, so I started having second thoughts about having it outside. But I just don't have room for it inside my little place! Part of it is in my bedroom, part is in the living room, and the glass top which is thick and weighs a TON is in the hallway!

This is probably a silly question, but what can I do to weatherize this set? I put my too large patio table up for free on Craig's List, and it was gone in a hot minute. (It was rectangular, this one is round)

It has a metal base and the chairs are metal. Should I spray it with something so it won't rust? It's antique gold and fancy looking, and I'd kinda like to spraypaint all the metal black. The chairs have thick cushioned seats that can unscrew from the chair. Should I take all the seats off and cover them in some kind of waterproof material, or is there something I can spray on them to waterproof them? I could get covers to put over them, but sooner or later they'd be caught in the rain without the covers on them, I would imagine.
Just what DO stores do to make furniture suitable for outdoor use, and what can I do? This would be perfect for my patio, and everything weighs a ton, so even in heavy winds, nothing in this set will ever budge!

I'd appreciate any ideas you all might have. I'd like to get it all together in time for the 3 day weekend coming up, and I'd also like to have my apt. back to normal! LOL!

Would it be too much trouble to go ahead and set it up where you are going to be using it, and just put a waterproof cover over it until a viable solution to the cushion question and paint job is found? There is Rustoleum Spray Paint that inhibits rust. A good cover with tie-downs for the wind should protect it for the short term.

Naw Shan, I sure don't. It's scattered all over the house and weighs like, a thousand pounds! The glass isn't even on the base..I'll have to get my neighbor to help me when I go to set it up. About busted a gut getting all this stuff from my car to inside the house!

I AM going to get it outside and set up this weekend, even if I DO have to lug it all back in again later! Luckily, I have good friends to help! I'll see if my buddy, D will take some pics this weekend of the table, and also my little gardening effort.

Fox, hopefully they make them big enough to go over the table AND chairs? Or am I looking at one big one for the table and 4 individual ones for the chairs? The chairs will scoot in a ways I'm pretty sure, but I'm more concerned about those regular cushions getting goobered up.
Probably a Home Depot or a Lowes would have the covers I'm guessing?
Yeah, that's probably what I'll do.
I do want to take pics though after I paint it.

I can barely type so please ignore any stupid statements I make. There is a type of paint for outdoor metal. I used it for a lantern in my old yard. I picked some up at Home Depot. The cushions are going to need to be replaced if they are covered in fabric. Can you sew? Go pick up material at the local fabric store.

Old habits die hard. First things I thought of for the chair seats was upholstering them in either a shower curtain or using one of those vinyl table cloths.

hahaha. That probably won't be very comfortable or fun after they have been sitting in the sun though.

One thing I did think of that hasn't been said though...I kind of wonder about that thick glass...would it magnify the sun? Would it start a fire if it's over grass? I have no idea....but I'm a bit of a nervous type and I probably would get a couple cans of that frosted glass spray and spray the table from underneath so it would be frosted...and probably look really cool on the black frame.

White does not exist in Nature. Unless it is bird droppings. Or snow. But since it is the warmer months..Flat Black, Flat Green, Flat Tan..all you need.

What about white doves that leave the bird droppings?

Don't have those, just the kind of brownish/grey ones that turn red.

One more thing, Summer. If you need replacement cushion material, then you can get that at the fabric store as well.

Use spray can clearcoat on the metal parts and vinyl rustoleum paint on the fabric.

Naw, the cushions are great. I was just gonna wrap the cushions in waterproof material and then re-attatch it to the chair seat.

Thanks eveyone for the suggestions! I think I will spray paint the metal, and spray the vinyl stuff on the cushions as Shrek suggested, plus get a big cover to put over the set when not in use for right now. But I still want to put a waterproof fabric over the cushions later on down the line, and I'm hoping that I can find some pretty material to do that with. The material that's on them is nice, but blah to me. (light beige) I like COLOR!
