PS3 and monitors

We're getting the young man either a TV 1080p or a monitor to work with his PS3. (He worked for saved and bought that beast himself) If we go with the monitor I know we need speakers and an HDMI cable/port. What resolution refresh rate etc. do I look for?

I really don't think computer monitors have the HMDI inputs. They have DVI inputs.
So that leaves TVs and as far as the refresh rate goes I am not sure if most humans eyes can see a different between 60 Hz and now 120 and there some are even as high as 240 Hz.

Yes there are certainly monitors with HDMI inputs, Acer and HP have such with built in speakers we were looking at them last night.......... but of course the resolution etc is all expresed very differently than is done for televisions. You can get a larger screen for less money than a TV is my thinking so why not?

True as now you can buy a HP and Dell monitors . So they would have the HMDI.
Well I just looked a the H-P ones and this is what they are saying about refresh rates.
Monitor type
23"diagonal idescreen Thin Film Transistor LCD active matrix
Native Resolution
1920 x 1080 @ 60 Hz (recommended)

So at 1080P like a TV,,, refresh rates are only at 60 Hz I can't find any higher then that. Where the newer TVs are now at 120 Hz and up.
Sp when it says resolution at 1920 X 1080 That IS 1080P just like TVs are sold.
Contrast ratio: 1000:1 (typical) 3000:1 (dynamic)
But the Contrast ratio would be better on a TV then on a computer monitor. 5,000 to 1
and even higher.
And as far as Acer is concerned with 4 different brands to choose from I did not check on those. As Now Acer is All 4 of these companies: The Acer Group family of brands -- Acer, Gateway, Packard Bell and eMachines -
