good free antivirus software?

I am getting a new used computer next week sthat does not have any antivirus software. I am looking for advice on a good free antivirus software.

I like the Avast! free version.

What you can use may be in part determined by what operating system it has on it.

Older systems are limiting since the anti-virus programs for them may not be able to be updated.
