Windows XP professional 2002?

DH found an old Dell laptop,seems to work fine. What kind of Anti-virus/spyware stuff can I put on it for free? The 2008 AVG doesn't want to work,says not suppoted,etc.

Spyware terminator. It's free and great. During instalation it will ask you if you want to protect against viruses too, so click yes, and it will install Clam Win antivirus. Both spyware terminator and Clam Win are great. http://www.spywareterminator.com/ Not only do these two programs scan and find viruses and spyware, but they keep spyware and viruses from getting on your computer! Congrats on the computer find! Our local library is always throwing away good monitors, and towers. (That's the only good thing about the library, lol!) I just recently got two gateway towers with dates on them that were 2004 from the library. Why do they throw away good equiptment?

The WinXP 2002 was a pre-service pack version. It's probably kicking the error because you need a minimum of SP2. If your version is genuine you can apply SP2 (or SP3 for that matter) for free at the Windows Update web site.

As an added note, a machine that old will not run well with AVG 8 due to lack of processor power. I would recommend using Avast! free instead.
