Can .avi files be converted to play on home DVD player?

OK, I'm stumped. I have some video in .avi format and I'd like to somehow convert it to a format that will play on a basic home DVD player. Is it possible?

Forgive me if question has been asked before. I did a search and didn't find an answer.

Maggie

Just discovered I get audio, but no video when I try to play these files. Real Player says the stream is in an unsupported format and Windos Media Player says something about an error downloading codec.

I have no idea what program created the files or what program was used to play them previously.

Thanks again!

Try seeing what "Windows Movie Maker" has the avi video file you are looking for.
