Making pics fit in a blogging

I went to the Blogger website (blogspot.com ? ) and wanted to do a site for our little homestead. But, I just can't figure out how to make the pictures fit in the narrow column! I readjusted the size and it still didn't work--argh, tell me what to do

I use blogger too. When I save my pics from the camera, I go into my photoshop and resize them, I make the width (left to right) 9 inches across, the height (top to bottom) I usually leave alone. When I then load them into blogger I check the 'shrink to fit' button. The pics fit just fine with no distortion.
