I wonder if it was an upset sensor relay? Most vehicles now of days have an sensor that recognizes an overturned vehicle and shuts the fuel off. Once off it has to be replaced to work again I believe. Even hitting something like a big bump can cause them to shut off fuel. I think they were first called vehicle rollover switch. Usually under driverside door. on frame, or used to be.

Friends of mine were rear-ended waiting to turn off on my road. Mashed in the back of their vehicle. I got a call asking me to come and take the vehicle to my farm while they went to ER. I couldn't get the vehicle started. An office walked over, reached in trunk and flipped a switch. I didn't know newer vehicles even had them.

Same symptons

As the one I had, after much aggravation it was found to be the emergency kill switch, or crash safety switch. Located on the hump under the dash it showed good but would only let current through to fuel pump for so long without killing engine. Pulled the switch an "jumped it with a cotter key, end of problem. not sure thats whats wrong with yours, could be maybe. Just sayin.

I haven't driven it much since getting it back, but it certainly starts without problem now. What purpose the relay served?

I have both an 84 (day-to-day) vehicle and 88 (travel) vehicle. 84 has a simple engine. Open the hood on the 88 and it is packed inside.

If it was the crash switch it shuts the fuel pump off in an accident. They wanted 68$ for the switch, when mine went bad, pulled it out of it's plug in and completed the circuit with a cotter key, saved a buncha money but it eliminated a safety feature. I shoulda read all the post before i posted earlier.
