Ya know, I just put a little piece of electrical tape over the light and I'm not bugged by it anymore!

On My Daughter's 2001 Durango over several months We kept getting the PO442 code for a small vacuum leak , changed the gas cap , reset computer several times , finally got a really bright mini mag light and mirror , and went over the vacuum hoses from the tank to the engine .
Found a crack on the bottom side of a hose at the engine that must of only opened when the car accelerated hard . Cut hose back , over 1,000 mi. since , and passed inspection .

The problem was likely the little discussed "Dealer has not made enough profit" code.
When a consumer tries to find it, it disappears.

Well they found the problem. It is an oxygen sensor and it is going to cost me $368. I wondered why my gas seemed to be going down so fast. Oh well, it's only money and I have my daughters used to eating on alternate days. They have been complaining though. They say that frozen water isn't really food.

$368 to change an oxygen sensor???? Is it gold plated? Seriously. Buy the Chilton's manual. There's a lot of small repairs just about anyone can do.

In all fairness $95 of that was to find the problem.

I did some pricing at autozone.com. Your sensors are pretty pricey and they need a special socket. Not at all like my Ford sensors, cheap and easy to reach.

My girls are 15 and 19, so it's hard to fool them any more.

The sensor was replaced this morning and I told the guy to listen for a sound in the right rear brake. He heard it and I told him to take a look because I was worried and the brakes haven't been right since the people at Monroe worked on them. Turns out the spring they put on the shoes was loose and rolling around inside scoring the drum. He said the stud or whatever that holds the spring had broken off. Monroe said they had put a new one in. They also said they had cleaned and adjusted both rear brakes. Another lie. They were both full of brake dust and he told me that the left one had never been removed. They needed a torch to get it off. Anyway, they turned the drums and put in a kit to fix the broken stud and spring and new shoes. Another $167, but it is worth it to me to know I can stop. I can't believe the difference. I was having to push down hard and pump the brakes to stop. Now they are back to where they were before Monroe touched them. It makes me wonder what else they lied about. I spent about $2000 over the last three months there. Never again. My van is a Dodge, but I took it to the Chevy dealer here in town, because they were so good with service when I had my Malibu. At least I feel like I got what I paid for. Why not Wally Armour, the Dodge dealer? Because when I called for a parts quote they were supposed to call me back. They didn't. When I called wanting to take the van there for this sensor problem, they were supposed to call me back. They didn't. Two strikes and you're out as far as I'm concerned. At least the Chevy place wants my business. OK, rant over.

So Monroe is still up to their old tricks. I wouldn't go to their shops if they paid me.

At least your van is running and stopping properly now. Peace of mind is priceless.
