Not sure Clovis. The bolts that were in it were from Cummins, they're already extra hard. The bottom two broke off flush with the block and the top two worked their way out but I'm not sure which came first. Checked them a week ago and they were all tight. When they were replaced last year they had red loc-tite on them. Tacking them in is worth a try I think. No clearance between the fan, shroud and rad to have any kind of shield that would work that I can think of.

Could be worse. The rad is a relatively cheap one to replace (about $1100).

Cummins are the BEST for a pu class motor....Ford 7.3 are a good motor, but if you look at the internal parts for either, the Cummins is way stronger. The 6.0 Fords are JUNK-runaway from them...we'll see about the 6.4...I'm predjudiced as the former owner of a 98-12valve making 550/800t that I sold at 432k miles...Dodge auto trannies are junk if not overly taken care of.If you ever(when)you blow one, spend the money and get ATS to rebuild it.....My Detroit 12.7 has 1.1 million on it.Had to replace a timing sensor last week in Ga.

Wonder if they [bolts] are so hard they are brittle? Are they coarse or fine thread? Sure would try to have machine shop mill out and go up a size using grade 10 NF.

Yep...I'd like to hear about that too. We've had to have our injector pumps replaced on our 99. It may be a 99, but it only has 115K mile on it.

Not to argue, but the 6.9L and 7.3L IH engines were used in IH trucks up to 26,000 GVW which is medium duty. Ford by contract could only use the engines in light duty trucks.

The Cummins is still the better engine. The ones used in school buses often were rated at 190hp.
