I took the plugs out put a little oil in each cylinder and turned the crank over by hand. So for nothing frozen, going to change the filters(gas) put new fuel lines in , I might try starting it next week. This is going to be a on going project, so I am in now hurry. I did find that the linkage was not working on the gear shift, clutch will work but cant tell if the trans is shifting with the linkage not moveing on the coloum.

they're still many of the around, the one you found is probably worth about 15 minutes work with your dozer.. It's no doube got over a hundred thou on it and the underneath and fire wall ect is all rusted out from setting in the woods, the mice have probably made nests in everything they can.

She is a beauty! I like the stepside box. Amazing that there is no real rust on the body - around here, there are 1997 vehicles which look like swiss cheese.

Straight 6 engines are great designs.

Great find. Surprisingly good and in complete condition. It is in much better condition that what I had expected, by a long shot.

I love the stepside. Much better looking in my opinion.

How nice are you going to make the truck? A full body off restoration, or just clean it up and drive it?

I sure do have a soft spot for GM 6 cylinders. Is it a 250, or a 232 (?)?

Clove

Is the firewall covered by oil residue? It appears so. Expect the engine is worn in well.

I certainly agree, great starting point.

The fire wall has more dirt than oil on it. Took the gas tank out this afternoon going to clean it out , changed to plugs , got the carb off , hunting buddy is going to rebuild it. The motor is a 250.
For now I am just going to clean it up and drive it , that is if we get it running.

That stuff on the firewall is most likely rust proofing or sound deadoner - if you look closely in the photographs, it certainly appears to be on there too neatly to be oil spray - and there is even what appears to be a spot where the stuff ran down and hardened.

Be sure to keep us up-to-date on the progress of the ol C-10.

I'll tell ya first thing i would do before turning it over, is to drain the oil, fill it with transmission fluid and maybe a quart of kerosene. lubricate the cam otherwise you will wipe out the cam lobes after it sitting so long just trying to get it up to pressure.
Then if it starts, let it idle for about 20 min. That kerosene will clean the gummed up oil out of the engine. Drain, and fill with oil. I personally would remove the valve cover to assertain how badly it is gummed up inside.

If you are a veteran check into a veteran's plate. You still have the tax to pay but no annual plate cost.

The clutch will stop sticking after you drive the vehicle some.
