Wow, what a nice looking young man, kind of takes your breath away !!

If I raised a flock where he could fit in, he would be an awesome addition.

Hope someone here can appreciate him

Very nice ram. Merinos are open faced now? When did they get that accomplished?

A lot depends on the bloodlines. Our goal is to select for polled, open faced, and smooth bodied. We also are picky about fleece and focus on natural colored - black is recessive in Merinos. Selection by the industry for white (and heavy culling for color) for many generations means we have our work cut out for us... We are REALLY happy with where we are going though. Very happy indeed! :-)

You want only 400$ for that stunning specimen and I can't find an icelandic ram for under 500$ to save my life. Unbelievable.

We are still in the process of moving and have a long way to go. When we get there to stay, I will come in and introduce myself. I might be interested in some of your sheep, but I can't until we are moved. (Like I need another breed, lol.) I LOVE Leicester fiber! And I have never spun BFL before. I'd like to try it sometime.

Cool to see some shepherd's in my area. DW and I are near Spring Green and want to get sheep at some point.

And if we ever go through Viroqua, I'll have to bring DW to your shop, she loves to knit!

Everytime we take a load of junk over to the new (to us) place, we drive right through spring green. One time we stopped and went to house on the rock. wow.

Registered Suffolk Wether Style flock for Sale

we've got a flock of sheep for sale-registered suffolk wether style, located in Northern Illinois
7 bred ewes, 1 ram and 4 ewes lambs, blood lines come from Darrell Howard of Oklahoma, Suffolk Acres from Indiana and DDJ Suffolks from Wisconsin.
Three ewes are yearlings, The ram is a yearling from Tom Slack of Indiana, the ewe lambs are from this ram.

Its a small show flock that has done well at the local shows and has a lot of potential. But my sons are grown and no longer show so I'm selling to pursue other interests.

If interested, call me at 815-378-1798, no texts please

I am looking for lambs in NM or nearby... not 100% sure on the breed, still some discussion between MIL & I, and price/availability will determine the final decision. We need 2-4 ewes, and one unrelated ram. Our goal is to produce our own line of milk stock. We intended to buy Dorset ewes and AI to British Milk Sheep from Ewenity in Canada, but cannot find Dorsets in NM (though we did find some across the state in CO and may make a trip to see them), and a few people have been discouraging us from trying the AI route. We arent opposed to keeping a ram, but are told they can be mean and have to be housed away from the ewes. (I grew up with dairy goats, and cannot imagine a ram being meaner or harder to handle than a big, ornery goat- though we quickly got rid of the mean ones and only bred good temperaments. We bred for good temperaments in our goats, I breed for temperament in my chickens and horses, so I'm sure it can be done in sheep too!)

Oh- eta- we'd prefer good wool, polled, meaty, multiple lambs, gentle/calm temperaments, and MIL LOVES black faces/legs- but all areas are negotiable at this point! Also, we'd LOVE a low price lol

Both Dorsets and British Milk Sheep are whitefaced but you could use a blackfaced ram as a terminal sire on your lesser-quality ewes. Nothing wrong with AI in sheep, it's just expensive.

Pretty hard to have a sheep flock without a ram at least part of the time. Most are fine as long as you practice safety, it's just the few killers that give them a bad reputation.

For Dorsets, be SURE to get production-type and not show-type. There's a good Yahoo group, just search ProdDorsetBreeders. That's a really good breed if you can't find true dairy ewes with extended lactation genetics.

I'm in the cincinnati area and looking for a couple of feeder lambs for spring. I prefer hair sheep, but doesn't matter as long as its a meat breed and healthy. They'll be keeping the pasture down over summer and filling the freezer in fall.

If you'll have lambs ready this spring PM me with details.
