Hey, I saw shadows yesterday, too! Didn't know if we were to rejoice or hide under the beds...it's been so long!

I think they'd have to be able to get under the hay for it to collapse on them, wouldn't it? Or maybe you're picturing bales sitting upright, when I'm picturing them laying flat on their sides? I actually hadn't been thinking in terms of sheep so much, but my horses when I was asking folk about the round bales. I saw some sitting out in the open up here and they were all black and slimy with mold. But putting them inside a cattle feeder and then tarping them might work. I think you'd still have some waste, but could be more economical than feeding small squares.
