I went to the sewing room again this morning and finally just gave up on hunting for fabrics. I now have the remainder of two different sets of fat quarters in the washer. Way too much fabric but I didn't feel like sorting them out.

Should have ironing done this morning and with any luck the blocks done today or in the morning. Probably mail Wednesday. I have to stop sewing long enough to clean this nasty house and can some more!

Update: I decided to stop for a while. I have 10 completely done (and pressed) and the other 30 need one more seam each. I stopped because I knew I was getting a migraine and this was confirmed when I cut my finger twice with the rotary cutter. So, off to the couch for a bit. May finish yet this evening.

Hope you all like them. They remind me of vintage quilts.

I am sewing, hoping to finish by the end of the week. I am wishing I had made my blocks a little bigger, a 1/4 inch seam just seems so little. It is funny to finish up with such little blocks- used to the larger size!

I was thinking the same thing about the block size. They seem to tiny!

Mine are done. I had to do 45 because 2 weren't quite right and I had blood on two. Just spent 20 minutes looking for the labels I know I have. Finally gave up. My mother will be spinning in her grave because I am actually going to hand baste the labels on.

Hand is a four letter word, you know, and Mom didn't believe in basting, either.

I will find those stinking labels this afternoon. I would bet money on it.

I really like how the blocks turned out but I have a lot of tan, yellow, orange and green. I also have 7 extra FQs I washed and didn't use. Need to do something with those fairly quickly so that they don't get mixed in with the other fabric by mistake.

I really can't wait to see all the others. I am thinking of place mats from them.

Have a great day, all. Not sure if I will go to town and mail this afternoon or in the morning.

Mary

Hand baste? Horrors!!! I machine baste with the longest stitch on the sewing machine and loosed tension. Daisy chained them and it took all of 5 minutes, at the most. I'm with your mother on hand basting.

I just couldn't bring myself to do them on the machine because I hate those so much. I generally damage a block or two that is done that way. It took me about 20 minutes while I ate. They are done.

I am now second guessing my fabric choices but I think they will be good once they are with others.

Now to find the address.....another thing I have probably misplaced! Seems to be a theme these days.

Been there with the return shipping post office troubles. Here's how I do it now: Have them hand you 2 mailers if you need them and 2 DC slips. Have them weigh the whole thing (blocks, mailers, DC slips, etc.) and give you a total. Buy 2 sets of stamps - one to send them; one to return them. Go over to the table or out to the car and make out the return DC, address and put the stamps on the return. Put all your return do-dads and blocks in your mailer going to the hostess, seal, stamp it, and address it. Take it back in and mail it, having it first scanned to confirm the DC.

Just an FYI though. If you're using a printed out DC for the return, you can't do that because of the mailing date being open. The post office isn't suppose to accept them. But they can't refuse to give you a blank DC and you make it out and sending it along.

They're not difficult at all. I just take my seam ripper and cut a couple of the threads and they pull right out. No damage at all.

Yes, but I am seam ripper challenged. I swear. I guess I never learned to use one properly. Just picking one up makes me nauseous because of all the damage I have done with them. I never saw one until jr. high home ec and when I was done with that year Mom threw it away because she didn't like them around. I have several now but I always try to figure away around using them.

Truely basted does not need a seam ripper, the stitches are too long and all you have to do is pull one of the threads. It is a bit like a running stitch for gathering but you just pull the whole thread out and the paper falls off.

Be aware - I baste them on, it does not hurt it and if you just pull the top thread out, nothing is ripped or cut. And if you need to get hold of it just slip a pencil or chop stick or such under the stitch and pull it out so your fingers can grab and pull.

I agree, Angie. I just seem to have a knack for screwing them up. And, I am still "traumatized" because I ripped two them from the last swap I did. Fortunately one of them was so close to the edge it didn't matter. The other I "fixed". Of course, I was in a hurry at the time and I know better!!

As my Mom would tell me and the sewing teacher too - you need more practice

LOL....my mom would say, "If you do it right the first time there is no need for those #@%!@# things. You will just get hurt with it. Throw it away."

I am guessing Mom cut herself with one at some point.

Hmmm....since I spent most of yesterday fairly doped trying to get rid of this migraine I was rather surprised to see I posted so frequently. Sorry about that!!! I was rather surprised to find them all setting on my bar labeled this afternoon when I got up. I would guess I was safer with a needle and thread than a sewing machine at that point but that is so totally unlike me. I don't do hand work. LOL....done now and gone.

Now, I plan to try another round of drugs for this migraine. I hope I stay off of here but I tend to get real restless if not knocked out.

countrysunshine, so sorry about the migraine. If you were posting while medicated for a migraine, I'm totally impressed you made sense and apparently got some sewing done.

So, I'm progressing.
