No one else gets to have any disasters! Angie has given out infractions to all the gray clouds so y'all can feel safe.
Thought I would give an update, went to the orthopedic dr. this morning and he put a non-removable splint on it as it was was to swollen to cast. Going back in 2 weeks for a cast, he said I would b in cast 6 to 10 weeks. He said that since I was "a little older" it would probably b closer to 10 weeks.

Awe, so very sorry cc. Prayers and hugs for a miracle that it heals quicker. Can't imagine going through the summer and beyond with that on my hand.

Mine weren't bright colours. More subdued darkish pastels and some much darker greens and blues. I think your fall colours would blend in very nicely, and hope you will use them. One thing I'm aware of in looking at the patches I made is with these smaller ones spaced similar to the quilt in the first post they all go together very well.
CC -- sorry about the projected time of healing on your hand. Eat right and take vitamins and minerals and I'll bet you will beat the odds!

Seems like everyone likes the brighter colors so, "Warning Will Robinson".... I'm a pastel gal so mine will be yellow and pink. It's was the most in my stash.

Hey Everybody have we ever done a swap where all the blocks didn't go together? Don't worry about the colors, they will work! Just remember Angie or Karen will banish any color that refuses to work nicely with the others. After all the many swaps done here, she has never had to banish a color so that means they must play together nicely and not have any fusses . (too bad there are people who don't do that!)

well.. my swap blocks are kinda pastels, but I think the will pair okay with brights..My hostess block, however, is all plaids & checks and very bright!!! somtimes I just lose control!! I do love brights, batiks and definitley FAll colors.. they all rock!! Thank you Angie for putting a magic spell on us to not get any more "hurts"!! I think I'll go whip up some more 9-patch in Fall colors.. maybe then I'll actually be ready for FAll when it gets here!!

I was able to get all my rows done today, so with it being TV time I'll go about separting the rows and start pinning again. It's slow but coming. My blocks are a mish mesh of scrappies and really working that scrappy theme. LOL.
Toodles,

All of my kids were here this weekend for the first time since March, I think. I was supposed to work but took today off. Back to work tomorrow. Promise to start sewing a few of these next week.
I need to go back and look but we have until September, don't we? I am not letting myself get stressed by these YET.
Can't wait to see everyone's. I do love a 9-patch.

Yes, Karen, it was wonderful. One DIL and I went to a local auction yesterday. I didn't buy anything for me but she wanted a concrete pig and some blue Ball jars. We got those and some saws for the other son.
We were later leaving than I wanted. So, when we came home I said, "I really need you to help me so that I can get this all together in time." The other kids were going to their 10 year reunion after an early supper. She just smiled and said okay. She was a HUGE help.
I told her thank you and that I owed her. She told me that we were even because I took her to the auction that morning bid for her. She is kind of reserved.
I have great kids - the ones I have by birth and the ones I have by circumstance.
CC, I am so sorry to hear of your injury. I hope your recovery is faster than the doctor expects.
I will send blocks for Prairie Girl, too. I have experienced those med woes many times, myself.
My blocks will be a mishmash. There are a bunch of 30's and some Kansas Troubles. Just whatever was large enough to wash and square again.
Keep Stitchin', Ladies!!

My blocks have a lot of small country florals- very traditional looking. The fun will be having all sorts of blocks to pull together!!!

I've been moving fabric and yarn around so I could get the wicker rocker for the front porch, then move a small entertainment center to the rocker's place, then re-put the fabric and yarn where I can get to it better. I was pulling out fabric for this while I was doing it. And the porch looks better with the rattan rocker. CC - hope you are feeling better, prairie girl - hope the meds are being better for you, and i'm planning blocks for you, too.

I got 4 more blocks done today while waiting on my friend to get off work so we could go out. I was planning on finishing the last 6 when I got home, but I don't know how well I can sew. I now know why they say not to drink on an empty stomach! I wasn't overly hungry so I forgot I hadn't ate much in the last 28 hrs, and I only had 2 drinks!I did eat while I was out though.

Squares are already rolling in! I am opening them this time. They are so pretty.
Belfrybat: no problem in using your bag.
Chickarecute: #1 in sending them in!
Greencountypete: Love your colors.
Don't let these ladies get you all excited, we have plenty of time to get the blocks in.

Scary, scary moments this morning!
Old Timer's Disease.
I'm probably about the oldest person in this swap but some of you probably have had similar experiences.
Forgetting where you set your glasses.
Forgetting to take that last batch of cookies out of the oven before they burn.
Running through 15 different names before getting to the correct grandchild.
Well, this morning was the scariest of all!
For a few moments --- no, actually minutes ~~~~~
I forgot how to thread my sewing machine

Tallpines -- funny, but all so understandable. That used to happen to me occasionally with my old machine if I hadn't used it in a while. But not due to "senior moments". The thing I like about my new machine is all you have to do is follow the arrows to thread it. Hopefully I'll never get so addled I forget what the arrows are for!

It's something I've been doing so automatically for so many years!
I was thinking too hard.
As soon as I let my mind go blank and just let my hands go through the motions, I got'er done

I have taken to making copies of the thread diagrams and keeping with each machine. I have become a bit of a collector but I use them all. I have four with vertical bobbins and they thread into the bobbin holder both ways! I just have to check to be sure for the machine I am using.
I have made no more progress on these blocks but I am caught up on my Tetris quilt along. Lots of fun in that!

I thought I was going to sew these up quickly but it's taking more time than I anticipated.
We have been so busy with traveling and grandchildren. My sewing projects keep getting put aside.
Tomorrow morning bright and early the 16 month old and almost 3 year old will arrive for a 5 day stay and next week we have the 18 month and 3 year old for 3 days.
And it won't be too long before we travel to Alaska ~~~
One thing I'm dealing with now is a huge snarl of previously cut fabric strips that I tossed into the washing machine (wasn't sure if they had ever been washed).
To further complicate the situation, at one time all these strips were cut at 2 1/2 inches.
However now after laundering, the edges frayed just enough that they are no longer 2 1/2 inches.
So I suppose I could just toss the whole snarl into the garbage but being the tightwad that I am I feel compelled to untangle the mess, iron each piece and trim them up into 2 inch strips.
Surely we may someday have a swap that requires 2 inch strips!
BTW --- I've got 26 blocks completed so far.

I've lost many strips to the washer just in the way you describe (well, lost them for this swap). So I now wash pre-cut strips by hand. I figure the point is to shrink and get the sizing out. So I place them in a basin with a little Dawn, pour boiling water over them, gently swish them around. Then drain, rinse in the same manner. I then iron them dry as I figure the heat of the iron will further shrink them.
2" strips are wonderful to make a braid. Since Maxine used that method for her square in the white and calico swap, I've become addicted to making them. So easy and perfect for those odd-sized pieces.

I finished my blocks last night. I only need 2 to finish, but I fell in love with one of the two so I had to make 3 so I could keep one :-) I just need to label and dig up my stash of envelopes and mail. I've paired them off so everyone gets at least one block with the hand dyed fabric.

Look at the quilt top I did. White and scrappy calico quilt top finished
Maxine's braid is on the second row and one I did (much simpler) is on the bottom row. I used 2" strips on mine. Maxine obviously likes to work in miniature and has much more patience than I do. But I love the effect of hers.
The instructions are here: Braid
