Urine Stain and Smell - carpet

I want to help a friend get rid of dog cat urine stains and smell from her almost brand new carpet. What have you used in the past that really worked well some of the stains are months old. Thanks, Sis

White vinegar is good at getting stains out. Her house will smell like vinegar for awhile though. I rub the rug with a rag soaked in it over the stain and keep rubbing it with a clean wet part of the rag till the stain is gone. It removed a coffee stain on an aqua colored carpet.

Our old spayed female dog is leaking now at night and I found a couple recipes online to get rid of the smell:

2 cups white vinegar
2 cups water
4 + TBSP baking soda sprinkled over wet area. Remove the powder when dried and then vacuum. It is bad for the vacuum cleaner to vacuum up powder so try to sweep most up with a whisk broom.

or
I use this one the most.

1 cup baking soda
1/2 cup 3% peroxide
1 tsp dish soap I use dawn clear detergent.
in a bowl
Mix peroxide and detergent mixture and rub with a sponge or rag over rug or on hard floor. Sprinkle spot with Baking soda. Sweep up the Baking Soda later.

I sometimes clean the wood floor where she sleeps with Murphey's oil which also seems to neutralize the smell.

Imho, when kept outside it tends to not be as much of an issue.
My wife has an inside dog, but it messed in the house, it wouldn't come in.

I used an ozone generator to remove cat urine odor from a couch cushion. I put the generator and the cushion in a 8'x8' room and sealed the bottom of the door to prevent the O3 from escaping. It will kill plants. After 24 hours I held my breath, walked into the room and used another opening to air it out after stopping the generator. Other than a slight prickly sensation to the eyes while I was briefly in the room, there was no effect except destroying the urine odor.

If she still has problems, check out what is under the carpeting. Urine can soak through the carpet and padding and go into the floorboards.
