neutered cat with visible bulges?

hey there, we adopted a new to us rescue kitty, Gunter, a month ago. They told us he was neutered perhaps 10 days before we picked him up.

He is not spraying or acting 'actively male' in any way - but his testicle sacs are not flat like I'm used to seeing and one of the sacs definitely has something 'pearl like' inside that can be moved around when I gently manipulate the sac.

Any ideas?

Have you palpated them? We had our Stanley (want a very irritating kitten?) neutered this spring. His scrotum is larger than our last cat's. With Henry one couldn't see where the goods had ever been. Stanley is a different story. A bulge is one thing while hardish lumps are another.

How old is your cat?

Doesn't sound neutered to me...you might want a vet to take a look at it.

Sometimes the tubes that are tied off scar up to form a small mass. A quick look by a vet would probably be a good idea.

Scar tissue would be harder than a testicle in most cases.

It takes a few months for the scrotum to shrink from what I've seen. Especially for the cheap, quick, and rough neuters most shelters do.

Gunter is guessed to be 1-2 yrs old. And yes Joshie, 'gently manipulate' = palpate.

I'm bringing him in tomorrow for a quick vet take a look.

thanks!

You may wish to hold off on that vet visit, if it is not obviously uncomfortable for the animal, as we experienced similar after getting our dog from the rescue, and the vet told us that at least for the first few weeks, there will be some fluid collecting in the scrotum, as nature abhors a vacuum, so we shouldn't worry about it. It did go down after a while too.

At first, his scrotum looked larger after the procedure than before. You may be prematurely reacting, though it is good to keep watch for signs of infection.

Allen, I don't think fluid would feel so 'ball-like' within the sac. There is something in the sac.

ha! There is something in the sac - but only if you feel really deeply, in which case it's called the penis. I guess if you really want to find something you will.

Funny how the first thing that flashed through my mind when the vet told me this was remembering all the sheep and goats and pigs we've butchered and how male anatomy looks on the inside.

Glad to not have a botched neuter job!

Our rescue hound looked 'un-neutered' for almost a month and a half after we brought him home. It'll go down eventually

Without testing, it is still hard to be certain... We know our dog has been neutered, and his scrotum has shrunken to little more than a fuzzy flap, but that still doesn't keep him from mounting the other one (who has also been spayed).

If the other cats he is with aren't exclusive to him, you'd need a paternity test to really be sure.

A neutered male cat doesn't have barbs on his penis like an intact one does. We learned this when Fred joined our family & we couldn't tell if he had been "fixed". Our vet examined his penis by pressing on it until he could see it & he (Fred) sure didn't like it a bit. He had been neutered.

When I was a kid, we had a neutered male cat who disappeared. A few weeks later, the "same cat" showed up. We realized he wasn't the same cat when we took the second cat to the vet for a UTI check because he was spraying everything, and the vet advised they "don't grow back" if you know what I mean ...

They were both absolutely identical in appearance -- black and white tuxedo cats. They even acted a lot a like, and normally cats have pretty distinctive personalities!

What we think happened is our neighbors owned the second cat, and accidentally took our cat when they moved ...
