Buried Rudy today

I posted at Thanksgiving about losing two of our cats in a week, we thought that would be it for a while since the other cats are young and (seemingly) healthy.

In early January our Rudy had two seizures, they lasted a minute or so and then he'd recover quickly. The Vet said all labs looked good and nothing was obvious, so just keep an eye on him and we'd talk about tests/meds if they continued. He was fine since then, till yesterday. He started seizing early in the morning and couldn't seem to pull out of it....pacing, panting and drooling. It ended with him snapping, biting at the air (hallucinations it looked like?) and barking almost like a dog. Then he laid down and died. We are stunned and heartbroken.

Rudy was our hero, he fought off a grown raccoon who was going after some kittens when he was only 8 months old. He was the leader of the pack of cats we brought with us when we moved.....big, wiry yellow tom who loved everyone and would wrap his arms around you when you picked him up. Who loved nothing more than to have a good meal and then sprawl on his back and get a nice long belly rub.....we will all miss him terribly.

Our Rudy....

Thank you all....this feels like a really, really bad dream. I wish now we had taken him for a necropsy, maybe I'd accept this better if I understood why it happened. But DH couldn't stand the thought, he had a huge soft spot for Rudy....so he's buried under the trees with Alfalfa and Miss Grey.

Rudy and his brother Big Head Todd, they're so funny. Even with 5 cats left the house feels empty without him.

Oh, gosh. I am so sorry. It is so hard to lose them.

He was beautiful; I love the picture of him and his brother.
