Wink Discovered a new "QUIT That Cat!"

My Keeter Cat, aka Ruler of the Universe, is supremely secure with a magic food bowl that is never empty. That's how we like it. BUT, she's not very vocal and when she wants she WANTS IT NOW!!! So when she wanted to go out the front door she thought a bit of clawing on the back of the lazy boy was The Way. My territory warn-off for table climbing is a short hiss, but this didn't impress her a bit with her feet on the floor.

Anywho, I hadn't noticed she knocked a plastic container of BB's down next to the back door and when I opened the door to let her out, the container rolled and WOW! That sound certainly didn't come from me, aka The Big Pushover, and she seems to think it's a danger signal. We live is rattlesnake country, so I imagine that's the connection. Now I keep a little container of BB's handy to roll around, and she doesn't like to cause That to happen. Peace returns.

We read your post and thought, wellll let's see what happens when we rattle the container of BB's.
Joe got a box and Brownie was sitting with her back to us. I shook it and she turned around and headed right to me. Polly was sound asleep on our bed and came right in. Best we figure they associated it with the treats we give them now and then...
I guess our cats do not have a clue as to what a rattle snake would sound like.

Oh, tooo funny! Makes me think of a friend who couldn't break an egg without her cats stampeding in from great distances in hot anticipation. Keeter never knows how the arrival of foods sounds, and I only hope she doesn't aclimate to the rattle. I also stand up and give a bug-eyed look to the place she's been clawing. Don't quite know who's behavior is really being modified sometimes...

That's funny! What a serendipitous discovery. An old trick with dogs is the jar-of-pennies, which would be right similar to a box-o-bb's.

We use a squirt bottle to get cats away from where they don't belong. Compressed air (the cans you use to clean off computers, etc) works too!

Cats are strange. Our cat used to scratch the living daylights out of the closet door that held her food. So we put duct tape on it so when she scratched she got stuck. (We unstuck her after having a good laugh) Sneezing must sound like pulling out duct tape because if you sneeze, she "talks back"...(That's what she does when she doesn't apreciate somthing, and duct tape noise is the only thing we could think of that would sound simlar to a sneeze.)
