Please keep Tom in your thoughts

Tom, our crippled Black Lab mix, is sick. I heard him stirring around this morning and got up to discover he'd thrown up all over the house and had bloody, nasty diarrhea everywhere.

Hubby is on his way to the vet with Tom now. Please keep him in your thoughts.

He has a very bad intestinal bug. Vet said they're seeing a lot of it. They kept him overnight and put him on IV fluids. Now we're keeping our fingers crossed that none of the other dogs come down with it!

Oh no! Prayers for Tom (and mom & dad, too)

I posted awhile back about my 2 dogs throwing up. They both had some sort of bug & the vet said it's very common.

I hope you have no other incidents!!

Have a bottle of Maloxx on hand if anyone gets an upset tummy - it does help. And cats can take it too!

He's doing okay...not much change. Still getting IV fluids. They told me to call around 9 a.m. tomorrow for an update.

At least he is not worse...maybe it just has to run it's course and he is in the best place he can be where he can be watched.

Thanks everyone. I hope he can come home soon too. Poor old Tom has spent more time in the hospital than any dog should ever have to...a three month stint eight years ago! It feels weird to not have him here.

Here he is hanging out with Fergus:

Fergus is a big healthy sweetheart of a cat. I don't even notice his missing nose unless I see a photo of him.

He is! Hubby went by to see Tom on his way to work and was able to take him out for a walk, which Tom loved. They're keeping him one more night to see if he can hold down solid food. No bloody diarrhea last night so he should get to come home tomorrow morning. Oh, and he's off the IV as of this morning.

Thanks everyone. We've had Tom the longest of any dog we've ever had (eight years) and are very attached to him. We've been through a lot together.

Awww, poor Tom. I've had dogs for years and never heard of them getting a bug like that. I'm glad it wasn't something more serious.

He's home! Hubby and Tom just got home from the vet and they're taking a walk now. Tom has meds to take for a few days and the vet said he might have a little diarrhea, but he should be good to go. He's very happy to be home and we're happy to have him home!

I am so glad he is home! Did the vets ever say what was wrong or what caused the bloody diarrhea?

They said it was a nasty intestinal bug that's been going around our county...said they've been seeing a lot of it.

Two of the dogs...Angus and Molly...didn't eat yesterday, which has us on alert. Angus never misses a meal, but Molly does skip eating from time to time.

Tom has been on his bed napping since arriving home. I have a feeling he didn't rest well while at the vet's.

Thanks! He's doing just fine, no intestinal problems and he ate well last night. Knock on wood...no one is showing signs that they caught Tom's bug.
