Question about neutered Dog

Rocky was neutered about 7 years ago. This morning he was tied with a female dog. I thought that once they were neutered they could not tie with a female...maybe I'm wrong. Is it possible for him to finish with being neutered?

Help!

I've never seen it, but it can happen. It's just not very common.

...Now, if pups occur and you are sure she wasn't exposed to others, it may be time to have a talk with the vet. LOL

Thanks. He's tried before but never tied so I was concerned as to why this happened after such along period of time after being neutered. They have been together for 3 years.

If she has puppies I will definitely talk to the doctor

Neutered male dogs can do everything but impregnate. I've known several that managed to tie.

I know this sounds rude, but first I'd feel and see if there was anything back there. Maybe he only had one descended testicle back then? Even a retained one _can_ occasionally produce sperm. Long shot but... I always asked my vet whether they actually removed 2. Had one dog I would have sworn must have had 3. He hiked, humped, tried to be boss dog, etc all his life LOL And I had them removed as soon as I could find any!

Our Lab had not been neutered that long but he most certainly did manage to tie with the Basset. No puppies, but he was a lot bigger than her and we were concerned about damage so we were careful to keep them apart for the duration of her heat. She was in heat when we got her so we made sure to schedule her for her spay when the heat was over.

My dog was neutered when he was 3-4 months old and he still thinks he is a stud. He has tied with my female and has all the other male behaviors. Sometimes its just temperament and not hormones. Maybe it was just coincidence but my female had a false pregnancy when she tied together with my male.

Male dogs think with their brains not their nuts... although I am sure there are a ton of jokes about it, so in other words he had the production line removed but the factory is still standing... lol Also its the female that holds the tie not the male.

I have seen spayed females continue to come into heat. They didn't ever become pregnant.

Pancho... my male un neutered dog has on occasion decided that my spayed old female dog is in heat and goes crazy trying to "date" her.. I always thought I was crazy to think she was actually having some sort of "ghost" cycle but perhaps that's been the case!

Tie? Yep. Impregnate? Nope.

That's reassuring. My son's dog, supposedly spayed, just tied with a male dog off and on over a period of about 4 days. He is sooo excited and I am wondering how we are going to manage having puppies. :-/

When a male dog is breeding a female, the bulb of his penis swells inside her vagina and causes the two dogs to be "tied" together until the swelling goes down - usually the male dismounts and they end up standing rear to rear for anywhere from 5 to 20 minutes.

I once had a client tell me he wanted to breed his female dog so his kids could learn "about that". When I started into my "miracle of birth not so miraculous" spiel he cut me off and said it was sex they needed to learn about, not birth. I was speechless, but couldn't help picturing the weird misconceptions they might come away with, if watching breeding dogs was to be their only sex education.

LOL! Yah that doesn't sound like what I'd want to use for a single example of sex education for children!

Thank you for explaining that. I knew it was something to do with mating/doggy sex but wasn't sure exactly what it meant. When I was a kid all of my dogs were males and now we have a female but no males around her.

LOL.....as a teen most of my sex education came from goats. Needless to say, I was not quite sure what to expect or whether this was an experience worth having!

ne prairiemama, not sure what is around you, but if your female isn't spayed and there are any homes within a few miles of you, I'd think about getting her spayed. Dogs can smell a female in heat for miles under the right conditions and it's not totally unknown for coyotes to breed a dog. Just a thought, when there's a will, they'll try to find a way.
