Boris had surgery

Boy my pets (which happen to be my family members) have me jumping through hoops lately. I'm starting to feel like Ravenlost but I only have 3 dogs!! First Rocky to the ER last month with the stick down the throat situation. Then Shep with subaceous cyst from hell. Now this week it's Boris! I found a lump on his tummy on Sunday that felt suspicious. Took him in Monday and looked at a sample under the microscope. It was not a fatty tumor it had a ton of white cells pointing to some kind of infection. Granuloma is what it turned out to be..like an abcess that walls itself off. The surgery went well but was a lot more than what we bargained for. It had a "root" that went very deep and my vet had to open the cavity to get it all. 3 packs of sutures later we were done. Poor Boris is very depressed over the ordeal and all he wants to do is lick it. So I have Shep with an infected incision on his back and Boris with a fresh incision on his belly. Plus I still have a chicken living here in my office with me and she molted so it looks like she will be in here for the winter!
I'm not complaining...well, maybe I am Just a little overwhelmed

Aw...brings tears to my eyes, he reminds me of Bonnie when she was wearing her teeshirt.

He's such a pretty boy. I hope he heals fast so he can stop wearing that humiliating teeshirt!

Ha ha...you have a chicken in the house! I can laugh because we had one in the house last winter...dubbed as - House Chicken. She was getting picked on and went down, so we brought her up to recover- then it was too cold to take her back out so she was up for the winter. Each day she would have some free time out of the crate to peck at some treats we tossed on the floor for her and sometimes she would sit in our laps. By the end of summer that chicken acted like she didn't even know who we were Hmmmph!

Oh, glad every ones ok, guess they thought you needed a good dose of drama in hopes you would feel guilty and fill their stockings a little fuller, just dont let them talk to the goats, they have already corrupted the chicken

You guys make me laugh !! Boris is doing better today. Much less depressed and his 3rd eyelids are back to normal so he looks much brighter. And Shep's incision is fianlly looking better. I think we are headed in the right direction. Henrietta (chicken)is going to be glad she is in the house when this bad weather rolls in. Willowwynd I am so glad to hear I am not alone in having to keep a chicken in the house for the winter!!

Jason, we don't have a lot of those Foxtails around here...I have never seen any on our property. But it may have been something similar that got embedded somehow. We didn't find anything in the lump. I'm leaning more towards barbed wire puncture because there is a lot of that around here and I HATE it and I blame everything on it!

Aw, poor Boris - glad he feels better today. There aren't many things more pathetic than a shepherd dog feeling sorry for himself...they can make you feel sooooo guilty! Sending healing rays for Boris and Shep.

Healing thoughts on the way. And on another note, you can send me that Johnnie Walker box if its in your way, I'll pay postage. You know, just to help you make space in case you get another puppy. Boris had surgery - Working and Companion Animals

As you can see, the box has a pretty important job here...I'll ask, but I don't think Shep will want to part with it
