Jinx Update

For those following her story, she is recovering splendidly. I have tried to keep her contained in her favorite bedroom and keep her mostly on the bed with bridges built to her window-ledge, but she is up/down all around. She is ultra affectionate and vocal, making me wonder if she wasn't off a bit before and I just missed it (?). Her incision looks great, too. It looks like she might be able to spend a bit more time with us before going to join her other friends at the bridge.

Now that I see the operation was a success, the next goal is her kidney function. I notice now just how much she is drinking, and she was peeing on stuff sporadically, but I never put it together. I thought this was behavioral (she really is a diva) but now I see it is probably physical. The vet recommends a tiny pill (apparently her levels aren't too bad) once per day. The rest of her bloodwork was perfectly normal. She really is a remarkable cat.

Anyhow, the next few days will bring a result of the biopsy and I will update then.

Do I have some truly miraculous animals or what??? Oh, speaking of miracles, good old Duke was trying to sneak into the bedroom to say "Hi" to Jinx (read, "chase her around a bit for old time's sake") and I accidentally shut the door on his big old nose. Whoops.

That is great Becca! What is the pill? Cats can do really well for a long time with minor kidney issues. Let her have as much water as she wants. Did they do a urine test?

Our cat Casper had kidney failure and lived another nine years after the diagnosis! He refused to eat prescription cat food so I did some research and found that Whiskas in the little bag was the best commercial cat food I could buy for his condition. Guess it worked, because he lived to be 19 years old!

I'm so glad Jinx is recovering so well and quickly!

Could you specify which little bag of Wiskas?
We have an 18 yr old lady on KD food and at times she does not want to eat it either. I am thinking I could spell the Kd with the Wiskas.

Oh yes, I would like to hear the type as well. Is it moist? She loves her Fancy Feast and gets quite angry when she doesn't get it.

I don't know the name of the pill, I guess we'll get it when we go to have the staples out next week. No urine test. It's ok to let her drink a lot of water? Good!

Thank you guys ((hugs)). This has been a roller coaster ride.

Yes, the moist Whiskas that come in a pouch. If I remember correctly the things to look for are less protein, salt and phosphorus.

And she needs to drink lots of water!
