Gonna feed the family dog food by-products Sunday

I cooked 10 pounds of chicken legs and thighs. Removed the bones and have been feeding the meat to my dogs. I wasn't sure if they should eat the stock because I was afraid it would be too rich and give them an upset stomach, so I'm going to use the stock to make chicken noodle soup to have with lunch Sunday at Mil's. I don't eat meat, so won't be eating any. DH warned me not to mention the soup was made with the dogs' left-overs.

About six months ago we stopped feeding our dog any commercial dog food. She was already a finicky eater, despite trying several brands and preferred canned dog food if she ate at all.

We had sometimes fed her scraps from our dinner plates or cooked a batch of chicken gizzards and gave her pieces as treats so it was an easy transition. Since then she had a better coat, has gained three pounds (she's a slender mutt) and has more energy.

We feed her the broth in moderation and often mix pork, chicken and beef scraps. Once a week we cook a 10# bag of chicken bought for $5.89. She also eats shredded carrots with her meat. She ignores other veggies so we don't push it.

Previous to discontinuing dog food, she had become quite ill. A pet store owner recommended the BARF diet, which is raw meats. We tried it for three days and she was soon feeling like her old self.

Are you aware that the RAW diet compromises of uncooked chicken with bones? I fed my dogs that...it worked out since I don't particularly care to cook and think cooking the food makes it lose some vitamins.....

We did the raw diet for years and loved it, unfortunately after moving out to the 'country' I could not find any affordable suppliers in my area to feed 4-6 great danes!
Tried to raise their food myself but could not keep up with how much they needed to
eat :-(
I still feed them raw whenever I can find something or leftovers when processing
our own. You'd think living out here around farms you'd be able to find stuff
easier.
I need to learn how to hunt!

As far as THEY know, you cooked up the chicken to get the broth and the dogs got the by-products...

LOL, you have some lucky dogs. Working towards a home cooked diet for the dog. She will eat anything, dates, nuts, corn, potatoes, raw and cooked, rice, poops, etc. Have to try the soup made with dog food by products .
