Stinky dog...problem solved!

I almost came here for help last week. Over the last couple of months, our 15-year-old MinPin started to absolutely reek! Her fur stunk and so did her poop (not that I sniff it regularly, but it about gagged me when I was outside with her and she went). I was convinced that she had died, but that her body didn't know it yet. I tried bathing her, but that only helped for about an hour. I couldn't even stand to be within 10 feet of her.

THEN, the light came on. Her normal food is Iams Active Maturity. The store was out of that kind, so I bought the Iams Naturals instead. It took me a couple of months (she doesn't eat much) to realize that the dog food was making her stink so much. She is now on Nutro Natural Choice Senior and she's back to her normal dog smell. I never thought I'd be happy to smell that, but I certainly am. She's sitting on my lap again and I can breathe through my nose!

Just thought you might like to know that different foods can evidently make your dog more stinky!

Oh, yeah. Our pup was so stinky...fur, breath, poo...and lots of gas. We finally changed his food to some that has no corn (it's Avoderm), and he is so much better smelling. His eyes are clear, and his energy way up.

Glad you got your girl's problem figured out, cause stinky doggies are no fun!

Yep, allergies to the food can do that.

Our Lab that is fourteen years old had such an odor for the last two years that we couldn't hardly stand it. His so stove up that during the winter he has to be in the porch since he can't walk when he gets cold. My son mentioned about a month ago that he read if a dog has been on a certain brand of dog food too long that they will stink. We changed to a different brand and he doesn't stink at all anymore.
