Cat loosing fur- can u help?

We have a momma cat that had kittens that are 61/2 weeks old today. We noticed a few days ago she has lost almost all the hair on her tail. She cleans herself perfusely. The kittens are eating solid food and using the litter box now so we have taken her away from them thinking the reason she is loosing her fur is because of the kittens stressing her out or trying to nurse too often. Do you think this may be the problem? Do you know of anything to put on it to keep her from pulling her hair out of her tail?

Check closely for fleas. The tail head area is a favorite spot of theirs. You might not see the actual fleas, but might see "flea dirt" aka flea poo. If you find "dirt" on the cat, put a small amount on a white kleenex and rub a tiny bit of water on it. If the Kleenex turns red, it's flea poo.

I suppose you would probably have mentioned it if you found bumps on the skin of her tail... but fungal infections also cause hair loss, then there is ring worm too. My cats passed ring worm around but I never saw the ring worm, just patches of no fur...

I don't have an answer for you, but I have a 12 year old cat that does the same thing. Last year she took all the fur off her front legs, this year she took a patch of fur out from behind her head. That fur has grown back, but now she's taken another patch of fur from her front right leg. She's mostly an indoor cat, has no fleas, ticks or ringworm. I have 2 other cats and they don't do what she's doing. I told my DH that "his" cat is neurotic.

I had a cat that licked the fur off of himself for no reason. I spent many maddening visits to the vet. Any kind of stress can trigger it. I finally learned some things that triggered him. But for the most part, he had a bald spot for a few weeks every couple of months. The vet offered to put him on kitty prozac, but that seemed a bit much.

Kitty Prozac... whats next? That is kinda funny. We have checked her for fleas and flee poo none there. They were flee treated ( my 3 older cats ) with that stuff you put on their necks. I talked to my sister and she said her cat does that every time she comes into heat. She has never been an outside cat but she keeps trying to sneak out. Since her kittens are eating hard food and using the litter box I took her away and she lays at our bedroom door crying for her kittens. BUT the hair on her tail looks as if it is trying to grow back. There are no bumps or blisters so I am hoping it was just stress. She is my beautiful long haired calico. Thanks for the replies

She may be slightly malnutritioned since she has given birth and has been nursing. There is a type of cat vitamins in a tube that you can get at your vets or at most ranch supply stores etc. Smells like fish oil and you just put a little on your finger and let the cat lick it off. They really like it and it REALLY helps them alot!
