Dog having eye surgery tomorrow

Please, if you pray for animals, pray that everything will go well for my Lhasa apso, Ragamuffin, tomorrow. He has a corneal ulcer and will be undergoing eye surgery to do a graft tomorrow morning at U of Fla (if the blood work comes back ok.) It is extremely bad and could rupture at any time. I'm really scared for him.

Thank you.

I hope your dog's surgery was successful.

Thanks for asking. The vets said it went really well. They sewed the eye partially shut and it is swollen and awful looking. He looks sort of how Frankenstein's monster would look if he were a dog and had on an e-collar. There is just a little opening on the side next to his nose so we can put the eye meds in it. The vets sent us home with a bunch of medicine, 4 different eye drops and an oral antibiotic, and instructions to return on Thursday morning. We had to stop at the pet store and get a harness because he isn't supposed to have any pressure around his neck because there is still a danger of the ulcer rupturing underneath the graft. Of course he got some new toys as well because he is a poor, sad looking little thing. We were almost home (it's a 2 hour drive) and he started whimpering and crying a little softly. This dog has never complained or cried from pain before, not even after he had hip surgery. So it was very upsetting to listen to him cry.

As soon as we got home, I fed him and gave him his painkiller that he usually gets every other day for his hips. He has to have it every day for the next 4 days. He acts more comfortable now and is resting quietly. I ended up having to take anti-anxiety pill.

LOL! you sound just like me with your anti-anxiety pill. Believe me I would have taken one myself!!
Well, I'm glad the Dr said it went well. I'm sure he looks rough today but it will look better tomorrow. Poor little guy. Keep us posted on his progress and I will say more prayers for a speedy recovery...and you are handling it all just fine
