Very strange dog behavior

Tonight I brought home a plastic bone that squeaks.

I made it squeak a few times thinking that would get my dog excited but she started CRYING really loud. She'll pick it up and carry it without squeaking but she still cries and cries. When she first picked it up she headed for the door with it.

If I roll it she'll follow it but cries.

She had a ball that squeaked and just loved it but it was a different squeak.

when my little mutt Dingowas a puppy he use to cry when a certain toy was squeaked, he would push on it but at that time he was too small to make it make noise, he eventually out grew that, your dog might get use to the noise the toy makes as well.

I think it sounds like a baby doll squeaker. She kind of seems afraid of it but she will carry it but cries as she does.

One of my border collies adopted a stuffed toy snowman that talked and laughed, when the battery got low it just made weird noises. It also would shake like it was having a seizure. She adored that snowman, and would carry it around then put it against her belly and poke at it. Then one of the other dogs got it one day and disected it. Poor girl. Later she adopted one of those little alien mcdonald toys that had this annoying tune over and over again. This was shortlived though, her chewing instinct evidently overcame the maternal and she chewed his little antennaes off, he never was the same.
Don't worry you're dog's ok .

Not related, but I have a doggie door. If my dog doesn't like a toy, she takes it outside and buries it!

My black lab does this with bones. She whimpers and carries them around because she wants to go and bury it. If she can't get outside, she'll eventually get up on the bed and try to bury the bone in our bedsheets. LOL Maybe this is what your dog is thinking?

i was thinking that it seems like she wants to go out and bury it too. maybe let her go out with it and see what she does. it must be hard to watch her cry like that and not know why.

The sound (pitch) might be hurting her ears.

I'm sure it's the squeaking that is making her act strange. This morning it was on her bed so she must have carried it there during the night. I threw it for her in the living room and she chased.

Then I squeaked it and now she won't have anything to do with it. She's also at my feet like she's afraid. I guess I'll have to find her a different toy.

My basset did that with Hartz squeaky dinos. She wouldn't play with them, would gently carry them around, trying to nurse them & cry with them in her mouth.

If I threw it, she'd run & get it crying .

After she was spayed, it took a few months, it turned out to be her favorite toy

Is there any way to remove the squeaker?

We had a small dog that absolutely hated any squeak toy. He'd literally remove the squeaker somehow and then he liked the toy.

A couple of years ago we gave our dog a WigglyGiggly. Thought she would love it, but she just got upset at the sound. She would whine & cry and wouldn't do anything with it. I think she thought it was a wounded puppy. We ended up giving it away

I think that may be happening here too.
