Salty Milk
So Pollys milk turned salty in July. I took a sample to the vet to test for mastitis and it came back negative. I was still suspicious. This is partly why I dried her off "early" I hoped if it was mastitis to cure it with a dry off. I dosed her with tommorrow in the meantime.
So she lambed a week ago and day 3 her milk was still salty, though the lambs don't mind and her udder feels normal. I tested with a strip today for mastitis, but it was unclear (originally tested normal, 12 hours later i looked at the strip and it was mildly abnormal in color.)
I assume she has a subclinical case of mastitis. I want her milk, though, but the salty stuff is no good for me! Since my area is so moist I don't leave salt out all the time because it turns to mush right away. I offer salt a few times a week, so I don't think its too many minerals or a lack either.
My gut says "subclinical mastitis" and my gut is usually right. I'm inclined to dose with LA200, which I've never used before, or today. Which would be a better "all purpose" treatment? I'd like her cleared up ASAP before problems really occur. My local large animal vet i have very little faith in so i come to you o shephards of the internet.
