Went to pick up a rooster, and well, MEET ROSIE!

We went down today to pick up a new rooster from Shadowfax Farms, and not only did we pick up TWO roosters, we also somehow ended up coming home with a bottle baby!

You can see this baby in Shadow's thread last week about her ewe having twins...this baby was just too small to compete with her giant brother, so she was in with a nanny goat and her kid when we visited today.

So we are in the sheep barn checking out the triplets, and Shadow says, you know I'll sell the other one as a bottle baby...

Hubby choked, I said hey we are already here, the girls jumped up and down, and now we have a baby in the family room.

It was so nice to meet another homesteading today member, and boy does she have some beautiful animals!

Isn't she cute! Everyone is just in love with her. Hopefully she will twin when she grows up, just like her mama.

Thank you, bergere.

I am in the market for ewes, but certainly had not planned to get a baby. My vet will be out today and is giving me info on available ewes in the area that I was interested in, but they are adults!!!

Congratulations! I love the pic w/your daughter and Rosie nose-to-nose in the car.

We raised suffolks for awhile. Most had singles their first year and then twinned after that. Make sure you know how to strip those teats so the babies can nurse. Ours were always too plugged for the babies to dislodge them.

Enjoy!

Family..........

Your daughters are lovely, husband must be very special too. Bottle babies in the house, not for everyone, but I can see how much joy this lamb is bringing to your family. We just had twin ewe lambs, this morning, from one of my best Katahdin ewes.............I NEVER get tired of being with the ewes and helping when needed.

Looks like your DH is in love!!!
Bottle babies are the worst, you can't even mow the lawn without carrying them. Have you ever seen a lamb ride on a riding lawn mower?....LOL They hate to be without you, and follow you everywhere.
There cuteness is a crime......LMAO!!!

Thank you all so much for all the compliments. My husband truly is a special man, so gentle and loving with all creatures. Having a fragile little baby does make him SO worried, but he just backs off and lets me handle all the really hands on stuff.

Shadow, you are right,he is not upset about it at all. He said last night that he was happy we came back with something so significant, it made the trip that much more worth it.

She is drinking, peeing and pooping, is drinking a bit of water from the bowl in the barn and is chewing on tiny bits of hay so all is well.

And, we have had her frolicking outside with my babydoll wether, while the EF ram is fenced in right there. The amazing thing is that our ram, who is very frustrated at not being bred yet, is so very interested in her smell and is so gentle about it. When she runs one direction, he runs parallel to her along th eother side of the fence. When she stops near the fence, he gets down on his knees and sniffs her. So awesome to watch all of them interact.

The roosters are both great too, my girls can go in and not worry, and my hens are relieved too. Everyone is happy, the animals I got from Shadow are all fantasticly healthy and well behaved.

If she ever has anything for sale, I will be her most positive referral! Buy her stock!!

And I am also so thankful to have finally found a farm vet, who was not only interested in constantly learning about new stock and new set ups, he gave me his cell number to call him day or night. I have been looking for over a year to find a vet who is competent and willing, and thank God I have this man as a partner in animal husbandry. He was impressed with our animals, their health and my knowledge about all of them, so I honestly feel so truly happy and blessed.

Thank you again everyone!
