Bottle baby constipated...

Me again. I am getting reports on the my lamb that my friends are raising, and they told me that Henry hasn't pooped in two days! He's getting goat milk, formula, extra water added so it's not too rich. Today he is five days old. Yesterday we took him to my sheep and held the mom to see if he could nurse, which he did, so he got mom's milk as well. We plan on doing that once a day (hard since the sheep are kept at a separate location, not at my house). Should we be concerned that he hasn't pooped and if so then what can be done? My friend hasn't taken his temp but I am baby-sitting him today and will.

You can give him an enema, but it won't be fun

He managed to poop about 1/2 hour ago so I think we're okay. My friend is a worry-wart and it's rubbing off on me. She thinks he is acting sluggish and is worried about him. She just dropped him off here and he went around investigating things and then laid down on a dog bed and is taking a nap. He ate before coming, though, so to me that would be the red flag, if he didn't want to eat.

You can add a little metamucil to the formula. Are you weighing the powder or measuring it? Weighing it can make a big difference.

Don't water down your goat's milk. Sheep milk has a lower percentage of water and a higher percentage of protein fat, sugar and calcium than goat's milk.

Your baby needs the richest source of food it can get.
