chronic scours

we have a ewe who has chronic (continuous daily) scours. She is three yrs and has had them since early on.

She is housed and pastured with all the other sheep.

She will stop (Scours)when she gets pregnant and then shortly after lambing she will get them again.

If we take her completely off pasture and feed hay only she stops.

We have had her fecal test and no parasites seen by vet. Her temp is normal, she appears healthy in every way but this.

we would like to hear of any ones experience with this type of situation.

Thank you.

If she stops during pregnancy or while on hay, it sounds as though it could be metabolic. If she maintains good condition, I wouldn't be inclined to worry about it too much.

If it bugs you, and you think she's worth it, take another faecal sample and ask the vets to send it to the lab to test for things other than worms. If nothing conclusive comes out of that, think about have bloods done.

I have a little Jersey cow that has chronic diarrhoea to the point that at times it is like green water. Faecal tests showed nothing untoward but bloods showed that while everything else was normal, she has a high white blood cell count. Unfortunately they weren't able to pin down why but is possibly something that has ocurred earlier in her life. However, at least I know what the cause is and don't have to worry about what to do about it.

Cheers,
Ronnie

I have trouble remembering what day it is here let alone what time of the day it is anywhere else.

Cheers,
Ronnie
