Added Rex to the Herd

My son has wanted his own breed for him to concentrate on for the past two years. We've drug our feet on getting him some but yesterday we finally bought him his own rabbits. We bought three rex for him: Broken Blue Buck and his broken Black son along with a Castor doe who is bred to the broken Blue buck.

He is excited about having his own rabbits and is looking forward to breeding.

No we need to learn all the "rules" for breeding colors. We've been spoiled with our Silver Foxes since we just breed blues and blacks.

Jim

I do know people that breed blue into their castors, since opal (a blue agouti) is the dilute of castor, but this tends to fade the ring color in the castors and if you want show colors, choose one or the other. Selfs plus otter (black, blue, chocolate, lilac) or agoutis (castor/opal, or chin/white).

You just lost me with that. I am a complete newbie when it comes to color genetics and color nomenclature.

I have the same problem with colors. Have concentrated on the New Zealand Whites for a long time...dont have to worry about colors with them! Have branched out into French Angoras, Netherland Dwarfs and Rex....I foresee a LOT of peering into the nest boxes and going...what the heck is THAT!!??
