Branches/Oral Health

I'm getting some Silver Fox rabbits and I wanted to know what kinds of branches I can give them?

I have apple and plum trees. I know apple branches are fairly common, but what about plum?

What do you give your rabbits to maintain their oral health/wear down their teeth?

The bird resources are great for these kinds of things
Bird; Birds: Safe, Toxic Trees, Woods. Safe Tree Wood. Parrots. Parrot cages.

We have a lot of hickory here and some mulberry plus raspberry canes.

Okay, Plum is in the "bad wood" column, but is that the same for birds and rabbits?

Mine go nuts over blackberry and raspberry canes. They especially like chewing the bark off live green canes. I keep a large multi berry patch near the rabbits and prune it often.

Generally speaking, the wood and leaves of drupes (single stoned fruits like cherry, peach and plum) are not considered safe for rabbits.

Anything on the bad list for birds would be at least highly questionable for rabbits. Most of the bad woods are plainly toxic. Some are just really hard on the organs like the amount of tannins in oak which is not healthy but shouldn't kill a rabbit. Still there's no good reason to give something like that so pretty much every wood that applies to birds is a good idea to apply the same rule to mammals.

I have thornless blackberries right near my cages, glad to know they can chew these!

Sycamore, maple and mulberry are all very good. I have a thornless multiflora rose I feed to my rabbits and when they are spending time in their outdoor run they nibble on the thornless blackberries growing there. Sassafras is another tree rabbits love but they are slow growers and not dependable for frequent feeding.
