Three Mini Plush Lop litters now

I now have three of my Mini Plush Lop litters in the nest boxes and so far pleased, though will have to wait to see what kind of ears I get. Will also have to wait to see if I get any Rex coats with the two that were Rex coat x non-Rex coat crosses. Guess that's part of the fun ...

One litter will have some non-Rex coats, the doe is one of my Rex/Velveteen Lop crosses but the buck is a Velveteen Lop/Thrianta cross. The other litter is going to be the most questionable on both coats and ears ... the doe is a broken black Mini Rex/ Holland Lop cross and the buck is a sable Mini Rex. On that one, all I can do is wait and see what I've got.

This is the one that will have Rex coats and should definitely have a lot of lop with the ears. Doe is from my breeding program, a Rex/Velveteen Lop cross (two crosses to Rex, one to Velveteen Lop) and the buck is one of the new Mini Plush Lop bucks I traded for earlier, a Mini Rex/ Velveteen Lop cross.

I'm definitely having a good time with these new generations this spring and have more about the project on my blog: http://designerrabbits.blogspot.com/

Oooohhhh, babies! Pretty babies! It's always such fun to see the colors and watch how they develop.

Your doe looks like my little Rex buck.

i have to admit to being intrigued by this project. if I had more barn space I'd devote some animals to it. I think plush lops would sell well.

It's been fun. I fell in love with the Rex because of the fur years ago and don't want to give that up, but when I started with rabbits again three years ago, just loved the lop ears.

I tried the Holland Lops but found I actually dislike the non-Rex coats ... liked the Velveteen Lops but the breed is going in the direction of the English lop with the really extreme ears, which I don't care for.

The Plush Lops seemed to be the answer and so far I've sure had fun with them and I do think they will sell well with the combination of the lop ears, more like the Holland Lop ear than the English Lop ear. Plus the Rex coats sell themselves if you can just get someone's hands on it

There is nothing like the feel of a rex rabbit. I've got a rex mix that unlike any of the other rexs we've had actually likes to be held and petted. Maybe Nova is just a bad example but the only time he wants a person is when he's shedding or he thinks you have food.

Quite a few of my Mini Rex have been 'standoffish' ... but have had two that were more people oriented.

Also have a standard Rex buck that is just nothing but a cuddle bunny, demanding about being petted and attention, in fact, and seems to pass the disposition on very often.

The number of Velveteen Lops that are more 'petable' is higher ... or seems to be anyway ... than either the Rex or the Mini Rex and using them to cross with seems to have given me a higher percentage of rabbits that adapt well to being pets.

I do think the temperament/attitude tends to run in certain lines in all the breeds and I'm selecting for good dispositions and see a difference in what I have now from what I started with.
