I've Got 6 New Babies!

Everyone looks pretty good, mom had them at about 11:45am this morning. I would have missed it if my dog hadn't woke me up and told me something was going on in the rabbit cage lol. She did so by whining and then gong over the the cage and whining more. She loves these darn rabbits, after i thanked her and told her to hush and go lay down she layed down about 2 feet from the rabbit cage and watched.

I layed in bed and watched Pigglet give birth to 6 squirmy babies! Its been something else watching this crazy momma make her nest, for 2 days she pulled out fur all over her cage and THEN picked it up and put it in the nest box. I was for sure that it was going to be yesterday by the way she was acting.

Though i did wake up about an hour before my dog alerted me to the babies, and thought piggy was dead. She was laying funny in the nest box and her eyes were half closed and distant looking. I had to go over and tap the cage a bit and she moved, looking offended. She was probably starting to go into labor and was just resting from making that nest of hers. It happened pretty fast, i figured there would only be about 4 in there but she managed 6! I'm so happy about this since i just lost a litter of 8 to my own stupidity. You live and you learn, i was going to wait one more day because i didn't think the doe was pregnant but turns out i was wrong and a little off on my record keeping.

Crazy thing though, when i KNEW she was pregnant and she was as big as a house (volley ball with a rabbit head i swear lol.) she had 4. Then next time she doesn't even look pregnant and pops out 8! Sheesh.

Got to keep better records of when stuff happens from now on. But i'm happy i've got 6 new healthy squirmy babies!

Momma is the Mini rex i got here awhile back, i posted pictures of her on here and daddy is the standard chinchilla buck. Anyone know what colors that might give me? The babies are all pink but 2 of them are a bit darker then the others.

Thanks for reading this, it got a little rambly but i'm just so excited about new babies!

I may post pictures when their fur starts to come in, right now they look just like every other bunch of naked pink babies lol.

Wanted to note that the babies are all on the smallish side so she had no problems giving birth to them, i think they are only that small because their momma is a little on the smaller side too. I was a little worried she might have babies that were too big for her but i was wrong, she had them all in about 30 minutes maybe less.

This is her first litter with me and only her second litter ever so i'm hoping for the best!

Thanks! They are going to drive me crazy for the next few days while their fur comes in, i cant wait to see what colors she gave me lol. From what i can tell its either 3 darker colored ones and 3 pink ones or 4 pink ones and 2 darker colored ones.

I wonder if the white ones will have momma's markings, Piglet is a Himalayan mini rex. (bits of fur is starting to come in and i'm seeing some white) None of the seem to have any visible markings like spots or anything like that.

I'm thinking the darker ones will have daddy's chinchilla coloring but i'm not very good with genetics lol.

Would be awesome if she threw something totally random color wise lol, we'll see.

Congratulations! I've raised rabbits forever and have never seen them give birth. The crazy way of running arround with fluff in their mouth, is as far as I've seen.
