Strange Doe Behavior!

OK, so i have a doe who is due on the 12th, she's defiantly pregnant because i can feel whats either 1 big baby or at least 2 small babies (maybe even 3) I'm not that experienced with palpating but I've palpated all my does and i know when i feel babies and i feel babies.

She has weird toe nails, she's my Mini Rex who had the overgrown toenails so bad it gave her sore hocks (which she had before i got her) Thats all healed up now but i noticed her nails getting long again so i went to get her out to clip them they are weird and not really nail shaped at all its like she has 5 cylindrical shaped tubes where her proper nails would be and they aren't even nail shaped at all.

However she was great with the nail clipping, struggled a bit at first but let me clip all 4 feet and use the Pedipaws on her nails to get them back into a nail shape so she can be comfortable walking on them. When it was all done i set her on the floor and i was petting her, well she started lifting for me as if i was a buck! She did this right before i put her with my buck because i suspected she was pregnant but ended up not being pregnant so i bred her when she started to life for me and did perfect for the buck.

Why would a pregnant doe lift for me when i pet her? She's pregnant i know i can feel anywhere between 1 and 3 babies inside her when i palpate her.

Any ideas on this? In my little bit of experience most doe's want nothing to do with mating when they are pregnant. Does this weird behavior mean anything or is it just another one of those things only the rabbits will ever understand.

Rex and Mini Rex have "needle-like" nails, quite different from other breeds. This is normal for them.

Pregnant or not, she can still have sexual desires... just like humans. HOWEVER... since she has a double-horned uterus, she is capable of carrying TWO different litters at the same time and to be born at different times. Best to keep her away from the buck, then. :happy0035:

I'm glad! I was starting to kind of worry there might be something wrong with her feet because they are so much different then my others nails! I'm glad she's normal!

Thanks Pat, I did know they had two horns in their uterus but i didn't know it could cause them to be willing to mate while they were already pregnant! She's such a good doe with the buck, i just hope she's also a good momma too.

Thanks for answering my question! I was slightly afraid it had meant she had lost or was loosing the babies, as i'd never seen a pregnant doe behave like that. With Anna, my Belgian Hare Mix, if she's not pregnant she'll mate (obviously lol) but is she's already pregnant she'll fight with the buck and won't have any of it.

So i was worried for nothing.

Thanks!

Some will fight and some won't. Each doe is different. This is why we can't always use the fighting as a positive sign of pregnancy because the doe may NOT fight and still be pregnant... and may even lift for the buck, too. The only sure way of knowing is by palpating.
