Excited, big week

I am very excited, it's a big week for us this week. 3 out of my 4 does took and today I put in nestboxes. I was ecstatic to walk up to the cages this morning to find 2 out of the 3 with big mouthfuls of straw and walking around. All 3 of these does are also pretty big so I'm hoping for big results. These are my first litters so im excited and nervous at the same time.

Any fur pulling yet? My doe that recently kindled had young within a few hours of pulling fur. Good luck! Hoping for lots of healthy babies

Yes just wanted to update one of the does pulled a ton of fur. I looked in the nestbox and it looked like a huge cotton ball. I think tonight it's going to go down lol

I came home from work and found 2 out 3 does dropped their litters. One of them built a nest in the corner of the cage on straw and pulled fur completely inoring the nestbox. What should I do put them in the nestbox or leave them be? So far it looks like I have 9 or 10 kits. yay

Congratulations!!

Did she make a nest with hay and fur or just fur? I'd personally put them in the nest box, but I'm hoping someone that has experienced with this will chime in. I've never had one kindle on wire(knock on wood). You have 9 or 10 kits per litter or total? What kind of rabbits are they?

Hay and fur its a pretty good layer of each. I think I may let it be because I heard of people putting them in the nestbox and then they throw them out of the box

I would make a hollowed out place in the hay in the nest box and put the babies and the fur in it. The babies will start to move around soon and they can crawl a long way. If they are left on the cage floor they can get scattered and it doesn't take long for them to get chillled. If the wire on the cage isn't very small they can and will get through it.
I have never had a mother reject babies because I moved them. I guess its possible, but I have never had it happen.

I moved them in last night and this morning they were still in the box, my reasoning was as you said with them crawling I was worried. I put all the fur in the box. OMG they pull alot and it was all over me. I just received a call that the last doe delivered at least 6-7 kits also in the nestbox. I went to check on them this morning and the last doe pulled a ton of fur but no babies but she finally had them.

Update: I got a headcount tonight while I was feeding the rabbits. Doe #1 had 8 kits, Doe 2 had 3 kits, and doe 3 had 8 kits as well. All are alive so far and all does are first time moms.

Glad all your babies are doing good. I always worry over my first timers. I have had 25 born in the last few days, waiting on two more litters, wondering if they took.
